the 4.2 is nice....but its just not made to rev out like the 3.6 can. 81mm bore 81mm stroke...square. i am looking at 8k to start, maybe inch up to 8,5 then to 9. ill just have to swap out injectors to keep up....heck i need injectors just to be bale to make the max power n/a out of this motor.

i just found this the other day....i am 95% sure this is my old 3.6 v8 5gang convert

i miss my 90 v8q 3.6...revd out to 8k a few times..... oh yes the sound
Just blow up the 3.6 already and get a 4.2.

Seriously considering putting a 4.2 in my B5..........

placed an order today at the dealer
2x 1J0971658L - 1.8t coil pack harness - cheaper than buying the 4 pin connectors by themselves
8x 06H905115 - 2.0TFSI coil packs - longer than 1.8t coil and produce higher voltage output

    already waiting at the dealer
    8x 03H971921A - .:R36 4pin protective caps

    tune is 90% done.

    so i tried 2.8, 3.2, and 3.6 24v vr6 coil packs...all way too short.

I refuse to go the 4.2 bolt down route.
4.2 valve covers 100-300$ a pair or 034 coil brackets@ 65$ a pair. 70$ for each 3 wire coil is stupid...and i would need 2 ignition control modules @ 1-200$ ea. there are 4 wire ones @ 35$ ea and i still need the 4.2 valve covers or 034 coil brackets

    1.8t one installed

    look what i found

turns out the fsi stuff has a higher voltage output than 1.8t and the 1.8t guys are upping the plug gaps to .040 from .028

you 20v guys might want to look into this....

    mkiv and mkvi

    mkv

fuel/ign maps are 90%, the last 10% will be when it starts

    just ordered:

    8x - 022 905 715A - 3.6 FSI VR coil packs
    8x - 4B0 973 724 - 4 pin connectors
    8x - 03H 971 921A - .:R36 angled protective caps

terminal removal tools are at home waiting

I'll get with Jeff@global garage for the 32 terminals/seals/wires for the coils and the 10 or so extra terminals/wires i need to mod the factory 55pin v8 ecu connector for the DTA.

I guess I need to get some raychem heat shrink from Jeff too.

if your going to do it, do it proper.

Well it can just be super expensive...especially if you screw it up running it too lean/too much timing on a turbo car...kaboom = $$$$$$. there are cheaper standalone systems out there but then you run into support issues. i have worked on 034 and Megasquirt. 034 is nice, but i would have to spend 2500$ just to start with them and Megasquirt is cheap like 3-400$ but needs played with forever to get it just right.

The standalone I am running is a DTAFast P8 Pro is just not used in this country so support is tough to find. This P8 unit rivals top of the line shit and is better than anything 034 has ....and its 10yrs old! I am starting from scratch since I have only found 1 Audi v8 running DTA and they are are in Europe somewhere on a forum that no longer exists. Tuning takes time unless you can get a standalone preloaded with a tune for your motor/injector setup....034 has a download page with tons of setups.

Here are a few screens, i got my ecu from a guy who had a rabbit 2L16v turbo...so i am still converting what he had programed in.
