It's more of a maturity thing than "scenes". A lot of high school kids will rag on cars, meanwhile the older you get, the more respect you have for the time and effort put into making the vehicle yours. At least that's how it seems up this way.

I dunno Nick, what "scene" are you in? You were pretty good at being an asshole to that dude Micah in his build thread for absolutely no reason, and I'm pretty sure you included me in your asinine rant that made no sense. Is that what the cool guys that are in the "right" scene do?

It's been around for much much longer than the blingy bigger is better chrome thing.
I believe that modern stance culture is a mix of the VW culture and japanese styling(shakotan, bosozoku, VIP). I also believe it is way more influenced by Japanese styling much more than the VW culture.
but kaido racers and all that suff is legitimately the best tuning style ever.

Not defending the VW scene, cause there are quite a lot of jackasses within it, but I feel the same goes for every scene. It is all about finding the right people within it.
Also, not to be biased, but the MK1 (), MK2 scene, and a lot of the aircooled scene is pretty cool. The MK4 scene as a whole just sucks lol.

I absolutely positively most surely despise the Honda "scene" which I'm guessing is what you guys are referring to as the "stereotype".
They are loud, obnoxious, and make me feel like a douchebag whenever I accidentally slip my clutch too much and over rev my engine in a parking lot or something.
I do not like them, Sam I am.
And VW kids are kinda lame... what with them being 20 and owning brand new cars on bags with wheels that cost more than my entire car.
So I have no preference. I do my own thang. By myself. Because I live in Western PA where there is nothing but ricers.

depends on the location really, there are douchebags with every type of car all over the country. around here the douchiest are probably the mustang owners, they all think the only good car ever built is a mustang and theyll rag on a clean nicely built import when theyre driving a bright yellow convertible mustang with the worst fitting cheap fiberglass bodykit and horrible fitting wheels you have ever seen on it. and although the local vw kids are nice to everyone and a few of them are serious about cars the majority of them are all just trend followers who became car guys when they got their first car in high school and just drive around in their mk4's bouncing around on racelands with thule bikeracks and stock wheels painted bright colors saying everything has to be "moar low"
with all that being said, for the most part the majority of the car people around me are pretty cool and ive actually made a lot of friends through the car events/facebook pages we have in the area
oh and how can i forget about the lifted truck guys....i think we all know how the majority of them are. egotistical douchebags that think their 200hp 305 powered lifted trucks are fast and will threaten to "run your pussy car over" all the time, but even then a select few of those guys are cool too...Last edited by 1988montecarloss; 07-29-2013, 11:45 PM.

Nick, I apologize, I had no idea.
Here's the thing; like others have said, find the right people in anything. Sadly, for the most part, I agree with Micah, having experienced it first hand.
Then again, seeing the children at a VW show doesn't do much for me either. Then I find that one dude, maybe another or two after that, that I will hang with and talk to and miss most of the show because of it. Then I think "man, show's over I spent the entire time talking to this guy, or that guy" and then I realize, that's what it's all about and I had a great time.
I think that there is too much infiltration by a bunch of somethings that have decided that whatever the rest of us have been doing is cool, and they need to be a part of it. They don't, that's what coloring books and the mall are for. Go find another hobby.

Scenes in general seem to be hit or miss. It's like high school cliques all over again but on wheels. I'm new to VW's(owning one for the past 4 years or so), but my dad's been an old hippie loving beetles and buses as long as I can remember. And before that I always had Honda's due to their reliability and abundance. But I never liked the "scene" or the typical Honda style. Cheap guys with ragged out cars with fart cans and cold air intakes and giant non functioning wings(this was in the late 90's - mid 2000's) who think they have racecars. Not to stereotype, I see some sweet Hondas and it amazes my wife when I stare at them being as I've been obsessed with euro's about as long as we've been together. I like all cars, but mostly odd stuff. First love was low-riders and old domestics when I was a kid, that turned to appreciation of affordable cars(Hondas when I was younger) to my current taste which is pretty much anything not Fast and Furious style and it helps to be different, fast and purpose built or extremely clean. So I tend to look at a lot of stuff.
Bought and claimed to be built cars and unappreciative mommy/daddy sponsored cars are lame I don't care which manufacturer they came from or which scene they're in.
I barely get to the local euro GTG's but I have a lot of friends and acquaintances who are into VW's/Audis. All groups are hit and miss it all depends on who you're standing next to at the time. The key is to avoid the dipshits without coming across as one yourself.
Long story short they're all hit or miss...
