This guy gets it ^^^ that's my plan. The local u-pull-it yard has like 7 xj40's, just gotta make sure that they're interchangeable between years.

So the Swaguar lives on... it's for the best I am sure. That Wayfarer might actually require a monetary investment, haha.

Obviously those Jag purists are bitter old white guys, so I'm positive they have the funds to buy up all the XJ40s not owned by their elite ranks for $800 each (what a price for such a collectible car), buy an island, call it New Great Britain, and spend their remaining days Jaggin' each other off in the backseats of the greatest car ever made.

Hahahaha it was definitely a good buy for the money, even with its shortcomings.

Got her in to my shop today. Getting the tires mounted, rear brakes done, and seeing what we can do with this radiator. C&M (my local parts supplier) quoted me $950 for the radiator, my cost!

The owner of the wayfarer texted me this morning, saying he decided to hold on to the car due to sentimental reasons.

Personally, I've always wanted a 40's/50's cruiser, and that is pretty cool. It's a different mindset though, because an $800 Jag is a blank canvas that no purist really cares about and has never really been defined in a typical modification sense. A hot/rat/lead-sled rod though, that has been done a million times and there are definitely many more ways to 'screw' it up.

However, that 40's cruiser is more of a lead-sled than a real rat rod. And it's nice you can do a lot of bolt-on 350 mods to start with.

Think about the car's image: do you want to blast-from-the-past cruiser or no-crap-given Jag?

It's pretty neat already, but not cool enough. I would go lower, chop up the front fenders, no hood. And probably go the wheels and accents in Tiffany blue.

ah HA! that makes sense, I just had mine apart and i hacked up an autozone GM spring compressor until it fit. either way works! so how much did you cut off to get that ride height? looks like you lowered it maybe 2" from stock?

I cut 3.5 springs out of the front on each side, translating to about 4 inches lower. To put that in to perspective, I can't drive down the middle of the road because its just constantly laying frame.

See, the thing is, I'm not very smart, so I just kept cutting until the spring would fit back in with some hammer poundin'. I am aware of the jag-specific spring compressor, I just wasn't able to get my hands on one, so I did my best without it.

Well that would change things...carb'd or FI? I' d have to consider suspension and stuff too though. I'd probably do it, but I loooooove old cars.

It's carb'd, which is nice in my opinion. It's been lowered significantly so far, so I'm hoping that maybe part of that lowering process yielded some updated suspension components. I'm really leaning towards it.
