Well that would change things...carb'd or FI? I' d have to consider suspension and stuff too though. I'd probably do it, but I loooooove old cars.

See, the thing is, I'm not very smart, so I just kept cutting until the spring would fit back in with some hammer poundin'. I am aware of the jag-specific spring compressor, I just wasn't able to get my hands on one, so I did my best without it.Originally posted by TheArkitekt View Postnice Jag! dont give it up, I love my XJ6, its a bit newer ('95). Its my DD so I havent modified yet, but I'm seriously considering lowering it and putting some wheels on it. I love the style 5s.
Can I ask what you used to compress the front springs to put them back on? Did you have the official jag tool for that? I know the spring has a mega angle on it, and most spring compressors only pull straight down.
Me too but dang b, rolling around in a '40's car, that would be something.Originally posted by floatingdino View PostI have mixed feelings about this proposition.

That's the thing though, it's got a modern drivetrain, which is the only way I would consider it. It's just a good 'ol fashion Chevy 350 and auto trans. It's not like the "rust and rot" type of rat rod. More like a "black primer" and colored accents typed thing. There's still the possibility of restoration, though.Originally posted by keeton View PostI wouldn't trade a daily drivable car for a rat rod, ever. That's just me.
With that said though, I'm really just not into rat rods at all. Real hot rods is where it's at.
Yeah, I keep her on CL for shits and gigglesOriginally posted by mrg7243 View PostCoulda swore I saw this for sale on CL recently.
no too many offers, people are terrified of these cars, and with good reason.
I got yelled at for it pissing itself in the school parking lot. Hopefully getting on that radiator tomorrow!

Cool looking car, but I hope you're not filling rust holes full of Bondo.

Don't worry, everything got grinded down to bare metal, quite nicely. Prep work is the name of the game when it comes to bondo, haha. The spot putty will be used sparingly. Honestly, I'm most likely gonna be spray bombing over the repairs in a matching color, as I don't have the time to repaint the whole car right now.Originally posted by cheesefacedogbone View PostIf you are putting bondo directly over rust , its gonna come right back through after getting wet a few times. You need to at least wire wheel the rust spots and apply some rust neutralizer first. Also I would avoid the spot putty if it is the type that squeezes out of the tube, and dosent mix with a hardener. That is a 30 year old laquer based product that can cause all kinds of issues with modern paint. Check out Evercoats metal glaze. its the real stuff.

However, the other rust repair spots came out alright, I ordered more bondo today to finish it up, as well as spot putty to really do a good job. It's back to pissing itself in the driveway again, which is bad because school starts up Tuesday for me. It's coming out of a hole on the top of the radiator, on the left side. The same hole is on the right side, however it isn't leaking. It looks like some sort of pressure release or overflow for the radiator, but maybe it's stuck open or something? It's getting frustrating to say the least.
The other issue is a grinding/scrubbing issue in the right rear, which started a day or two ago. It sounds like metal on metal, and gets more frequent as you accelerate, but come off the gas, and the noise goes away completely. Any thoughts?

So I found the only photo that I took of the bondo work, I hadn't been home and a couple days so my phone was long dead, and the iPad was the only thing left around. I like this shit, because 1) it makes my wheels look better than they are and 2) the color it makes my car look here is bangin'.
