Thanks man. I was where you are bout 4-5 years ago. practice practice practice. When kayaing my friend James (pictured on the kayak in one of the pics) was out for his first time shooting. Biggest advise i can give you is there is no wrong shot. Yeah there are rules out there, rule of thirds, dont shoot directly into the sun (i break that frequently haha) etc tec. Dont think of them as rules, simply as guidelines. Sometime those rules can affect the picture positively and sometimes negatively.Originally posted by Sypher View PostAs someone who just bought their first DSLR (Nikon D3200) your shots look fantastic compared to mine.... I love the closeup shots, they all look great with the shallow depth of field!!!! What lens are you using for those?
regarding the shallow depth of field, yes a low f stop (it references the size of the opening allowing light onto the camera sensor, lower the numer the larger the opening, the shallower depth of field) great helps in achieving that result. However the position of your subject matter also greatly affects the depth of field. The larger distance between your subject matter and the background the greater depth of field will show in the photo. And you can magnify that effect by moving the camera slower to the subject matter while keeping the distance between the subject and background the same.
For instance, notice how close the camera is to the subject matter, and how shallow the depth of field is. The GT badge is in focus but the rear of the car is not, and the background is even more out of focus/blurred.

Where as in this shot, with the car in the same position, the camera is moved back, but the distance between the subject batter and background stayed the same. There is still some background blur, but not as much as when the camera was closer.

Photography is simply put the manipulation of light. Light and distance are your greatest tools.
I also started out on a Nikon D3200. Pick you up a 35mm F1.8 you can get them for under $200 and its a great sharp lens. Was my fav. on that camera. Also a great lens to learn on vs a zoom lens. A prime lens (fixed foacal length, does not zoom) forces you the photographer to move around to find the best angle, vs sitting still and just zooming in and out to get a better shot.
Hope all of this helped, if you have any more questions dont hesitate to ask.

To hijack the thread. I know he uses a 50mm f/1.4. The low F stop is how you get a super shallow depth of field.Originally posted by Sypher View PostAs someone who just bought their first DSLR (Nikon D3200) your shots look fantastic compared to mine.... No real update, still working on getting a few side jobs finished up here at home. Still need to finish trimming the trans to mount the adaptor plate and get that all bolted together. Also need to bring home some cleaner so as to start cleaning the heads.
Didn't have the extra cash to pick up the cams and valve train parts i wanted, but i did pick up a pair of kayaks I've been wanting for a while
Since a bunch of people have commented on my photography, here are a few shots of my son and and from kayaking.

Its a drag pack, 275 drag radials out back. it was a full bolt on 4.6 with a 100 shot of nitrous on it. Was good for low 12s or high 11s although he never laughed it at the track as he didn't want to break the stock axles. no launch he ran a 12.8Originally posted by 190Evan View PostThat wheel tire set up looks good but if you don't mind me asking what did he have done to the stock 4.6 to deserve meat like that in the rear and the lack in the front haha?

Yes the quality of the parts is fantastic, very well made. As for linkage im expecting it to be too long like you mentioned, however at this point i dont know. Sadly i dont even have the car at my house yet. Waiting till i finish a wrx shortblock install ive been waiting a month for the motor to come inOriginally posted by 190Evan View PostI was also considering using the Collins adapter plate to mate the CD trans to my Lexus but seeing as it's my daily it was too big of a project to pick up while im in school. His parts looks pristine by the looks of it and he's a really cool guy too! Have you decided what you're going to do about the stupid CD shifter linkage set up? I don't know if it's a problem on these New Edge stangs but those trans's tend to cause a little confusion because of that (usually too long). If it is too long Serial Nine makes a sweet relocation kit that's fully adjustable. Anyways enough of my rambling I'm super stoked to see this build and it's good to see a little something different for once on SW. You better post sound clips when you get this thing running

, then once its gone ill be bringing the mustang home and doing the first initial mock up
Both GKteck and another company, starts with an H i think, make shifter relocators. However an adjustable one sounds perfect to get the exact and perfect fitment. Ill def have to look into that.
Also, i fully plan on recording first start up and maiden voyage. willl be trying my hand at video with my canon 6d and go pro.
