I'm starting on it, I have to finish it and turn in the paperwork, then finish a bit more work before Feb 21st...Fun...All while doing college apps, scholarship notebook, AND schoolwork, and most importantly my car.
First time she has moved under her own power :') Finally!
Brakes work excellently, transmission is fine (Thank god), clutch is good, engine/engine electical is good, basic electrical that makes it legal works, looks like it's time for a road test!
I also swapped out all of the rear lugs because I could easily swap those, front's are a different deal. Luckily none of them are stripped, the rears were, let's just say', REALLY BAD. Lucking nuts, normal, nuts, and some 15x8 -38 offset steelies on the way Next on the shopping list of fun will be front coils, rear lowering springs, and flares! Finally, the fun comes!
Also soon will be getting another coat of bedliner onto the floor, then carpet and interior, also fixing the window bearings.
Awesome! I absolutely live your plans and your progress!!
Thanks!
So, last weekend I spent 8 hours getting my friends E21 to drivable condition. This included front suspension (new struts and reinstalling) and bleeding brakes. Simple, right? Well, we didn't know the secret formula for reinstalling the struts. It was a pain in the ass; We ended up having to separate the torsion bar with one jack while jacking one of the struts up enough to push the control arm in. I know this is probably not how it is done, but the manual didn't help, and we didn't know what to do. Oh well, it worked, we just had a spring compressed at close to 600 Lb glaring us in the face.
Anyways, my car:
I got goodies today
I also got accepted to Oregon State so that's pretty neat!
Nothing much has happened lately, other than this. I am trying my hand at upholstery, not too bad so far. I still need to pull some parts tight and finish the top:
-Selling plastic bucket seats because I can't get them to work right
-Still too cheap for tires
-Still too cheap for suspension
-Still too stupid to buy twin cam head and parts instead of the above two (More on that later)
-Bought a new battery and alternator, so now it actually charges and holds a charge.
-Carpet is in
-SEAT BELT IS WAY TOO TIGHT.
I am a size 28/29 waist and I still have a hard time getting in. Oh well, more spending!
Also got it license for a classic car, because small town/no cops and no tabs
Today, at 1242 PM or whatever it was, it finally hit the road. After just over a year and a half of ownership, and sitting for 16 years unregistered, it finally did it. There were problems, however. I never get that lucky
-The speedo commit suicide through a series of mysteries clicks and grinding noises. So no I need a new tach AND speedo...
-The passenger rear window then decided to slide off of its rails, then refuse to go back on. So now that is covered in plastic and looks really ghetto...
-Engine is dieseling for whatever reason. This is the easiest to solve
Yes! I love these! When I previously read through this and saw you were thinking of getting rid it made me sad Glad you kept on going! Now slam that bitch! Slam it and get an AE86 engine in it and have some sideways fun Also, maybe a lick of paint... The primer doesn't do it favours Keep it up!

Thank you! And yes, suspension will be... soon... maybe... summer at least? I am buying tires for the steelies in the coming weeks, then I need to decided on how I want to tackle suspension. Here are my options:
-Order a front coilover kit from T3, which will set me back about $220. I am very confident in my welding skills now and would feel fine doing those. I would still need to spend about $450 in springs and shocks in order for it to still work, so the sum total would be about $700. Yes, I know, still cheap, but not cheap enough for me
-My other option would be to NOT buy the coilover kit, and just run lowering springs. Far cheaper, easier, and frankly I don't care about adjustability.
-Or I could go balls out, stitch weld the rear towers and the front plates, then swap in some 86 coils into it. Yeah, no
Engine wise, I am looking into getting the twin cam head for my engine. I would get it around the end of June if I did, and would swap it on.
So far, not a ton to worry about. There are a few spots I want to redo, like the trim pieces and the large patch on the drivers door. The roof is fine, thank god, and the trunk I am going to go all out and remove all the bondo and patch weld it. Everything else seems fine. One things for sure: Using a vibrating sanding tool really helps. It ended up breaking after I finished the door, so the trunk was all by hand. Ended up sinking 4 hours total, standing. No fun :bawling: But that's the life of car work
Got wheels ordered, and I have the money lined up for suspension, however I want to see how it looks with the wheels on it first, before I spend money on suspension. And paint. And college
Take this advice Looking good! I shall one day import one to the UK! As for suspension setups, I'd personally go the coilover route as lowering springs are fine to an extent, but then you need shocks that won't burst or bounce about everywhere to go with them, and in the end, ends up the same price or thereabouts man. Just my 2 cents
