Why not use the front clip off the pre "pig nose " type 3 ?

your using a swing axle rear sub frame and transmission , why not use IRS like the pignose came with ? Just wondering because the Irs gives plenty of rear camber but you wont be killing bearings from oil starvation of the rear bearings

Its really easy to convert to manual trans in a type 3 using a hydraulic clutch conversion because the clutch cable in the tunnel isn't there on auto cars. and its impossible to weld a new one in. ( speaking from experience )

Ive also converted a type 3 to a pre 70 front end and fenders using a clip from a 67 . rear fenders bolt right up , same goes for the rear bumper .

I just built it the way I wanted to. I don't know other than that.
    But I appreciate your opinion.

I got lots of bits in the mail. Put a few window seals in.
Got the interior. Headliner. Door cards. Seat upholstery and foam. Dash. Every rubber seal I can think of and a lot more. Maybe start putting more together this next week assuming it gets painted red soon.

Love it. I built a couple early Type 1's about a decade ago, which really got me into cars. Then worked at a vintage VW shop. Have always wanted to get back into one, but the VW scene exploded and prices are ridiculous now. If I ever do, I will be doing an EJ swap.

                    • Put the tins on last night and just sat the oil stuff on top to see what it's gonna look like. Obviously need to put carbs and fan stuff together. But I'm happy with it so far.

It's a little saggy. I had to tighten it a little bit. But it also will change once it gets warm a few times. If not I'll use a heat gun.

                            • Thanks! Fingers crossed early next week it will be done with paint and be the original color. Then I hope to do all of the wiring. Install the engine. Make it run then start on the headliner and interior stuff. I think headliner will be the most challenging part.

Tomorrow is the big day. I sanded the last bit tonight.
I'm gonna spray some primer sealer tomorrow and paint right after.
So if all goes well tomorrow night I'll be posting pictures of a red squareback.
