I do like non metallic alot. grey with a hint of blue or medium green...maybe.

I also have a tan vehicle, it's faded tan now with a haze of white oxide. I am not a fan of the tan.
but I also have a real hard time changing color on a car that's not had alot of previous owner bastardization done to it.
-and I'm not suggesting anything of the sort to you here Chub, the work is fantastic to say the least-
just saying like it or not I'd have strong leanings to stock color

I guess that's one of the good things about having a basket case car to start your project with, freedom that any restorative work is a good thing.

shades of grey always have a more down-to-business kind of a look. that's a good thing.

i feel like some nakamae seats would look great in this, but they're $$$ and kind of a miata thing, loving the custom brackets on the mkiv seats though, whatever you do will be stellar

Grey was always my initial goal for the 02. My first car was a little lighter shade, but a darker version is still my end goal for the 02.

    example:

it's a really forgiving color. Perfect if you're trying to knock it out on your own.

my suggestion is put your favorite color chips on a dart board...maybe double up on colors you lean towards more, and toss darts and beers over it for an evening.

if it were me I'd lean towards a metallic or non metallic grey...or something subdued like that. the car will be a stand out big time without loud colors. I would also consider a lighter color with a black roof, hood and trunk lid too...maybe.

    Hey ― I'm famous! That's my car!

    How about MINI Ice Blue?

Would look great with a black Alpina-style hood/trunk/accent line and your black wheels. (s/orange/blue). Colour looks fantastic with black wheels.

For a solid colour, take a look at Porsche's Agate Grey Metallic. Really sets off chromework, love the 991 in this shade.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, got a lot of good ones. Luckily I still have plenty of time to decide, I'm all over the place right now when it comes to color choices. I'm still waiting on that one.... The one that will hit home as soon as I see it. The color will find me my friends.

Expect more actual updates very soon, finishing up a job at my shop tomorrow which has been taking up ALL of my free shop time as of lately. My next step will be fabricating the rear bag mounts for the top, and I'm 99% sure that I'm going with a different engine setup than the M10/5-speed. Been doing a ton of research and I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and go for it (it's nothing wild, more tried and true). Plus, this gives me a chance to redo my engine bay which has been killing me since I painted it. Time to do it right.

If we're suggesting colors here, what about a dark purple like Midnight Plum?

I love the build! I'm sure it'll look great in just about any color but I do like that oem Nevada color.
