idk about malaga. i think with the flares and drop AND black wheels, I would go something lighter so you can really see the curves/ awesome work done. But, it is your car, so choose whatever you want. just dont choose inka.

As far as motor choice goes I would look into boosting them m10, the block are nearly bullet proof to start off with (same blocks were used in BMWs f1 cars back in the day and made somewhere around 60lbs of boost!!!!) You could rev it to the moon and have a reliable engine at the same time, you gonna get really bored of the stock motor really fast. Hell even an m20 swap would be awesome!

I also saw you like malaga, heres one of the local guys near me. super clean with turbo air dam!

Cant wait to see this thing done!
Turbo M10 is definitely an option as well, that would be sweet! I am leaning more towards M20 over M42 at the moment, if I had to choose between the two. That Malaga looks amazing, I love that color.

Whoa, cool to see it all one color however Inka is another color that I just really don't like. My favorite BMW 2002 color is Malaga, and have considered going that route. I've also been tossing some other ideas around, nothing is set in stone yet. Thanks for the photoshop though!

m20 would be good. one thing about both is oil pan clearance.
the one nice thing about a swap is that it updates everything in one fell swoop.
this willl sound kinda wierd but have you ever considered a miata motor, would last forever...ITB's and some cams... shave the cam cover and no one will know...

if you do the m42 either boost it or stroke it with a diesel crank...
Thanks for the info on the M42, I kind of had a feeling that was the situation. I daily'd a 1991 318is and was not happy with the M42, although it's a great engine reliability wise.

I haven't considered a miata motor, but I was feeling a bit weird one day and started tossing the idea around of doing a Toyota 22RE swap. I have one in my daily pickup and I think it might make an interesting swap choice. Bulletproof motor too... But that probably won't happen, I will more than likely keep it BMW but you never know

That's always an option too, I might just run the M10 for a few months so I can at least drive the damn thing when it's all done, and then plan/build a swap while I drive it. Might seem like a waste of time but I really want to get this project done.

drilling to far is not an issue with stronger materials like in your case...your car will not fall apart ...there is a little trick to prevent drilling to far and stop in the right time...you need to take a closer look at the cutter drill bit while drilling...you can see a little color change for a very short moment...it is much easier to spot it with zinc plated metal, which your subframe i think is not...eitherway you did a good drilling...i think your cutter is to sharp on the outside...normally the drill is flat (like mills) and has a thorn in the middle which leaves a different drilling image...
Thank you! I'm really happy with the all black, glad I followed my gut on that one. Funny you mention the color change while drilling out the spot welds, as I started noticing that when I was drilling out the other side. It must just be dirt/rust stuck in between the two layers of metal.

Dont know where to start... Your work and dedication is inspiring and amazing. Your first location to work on your car, your dads 30 acre vineyard in Cali was truely envyable. All your cars along the way thru this build from the Merc to the e30 seemed like quite an adventure, and now your own work place.... Awesome work there good sir.

Love your build, looking forward to updates.

ps, I may have missed the update on the dirkhead who sold you and 2 other people phantom wheels, was that issue resolved in the end?
Thank you man, the spot up at my dad's really was awesome, and I honestly give having access to that spot credit to where I am today. It opened up so many possibilities and opportunities for me. The Mercedes is sitting up at my dad's waiting to be worked on, the E30 was sold a few months ago but was a great learning experience as well.

As for the spam wheels, Paypal refunded my money very promptly as it was an obvious hoax, so that was cool!
