Well... I got a few things done today. Got the front brake calipers and rotors back from a friend after sand blasting and painted them up in bright pink with yellow polka dots...
The engine is also technically in the car. I got the pilot bearings in the mail (in picture below old smaller one on top and newer bigger one on the bottom). I decided to put the engine in from the bottom. I just bolted the trans and sub frame to it, dropped the whole thing on two skateboards and slid it under the car. I guess tomorrow Ill find out how the trans fits in the tunnel

I need some help getting the engine wiring harness plugged into the right places. Any local SF guys want to lend a hand for free beer? I need some help from some one who knows m20 better then I do.

Good to see the engine in there though. I've only read a bit on e30tech but would've def still helped if I was in sf.

All I can say is wiring is a bitch! Still working on getting everything hooked up. I hope this thing is running by the 5th! I have an event to go to.
Nothing new for the '02 but I got some swag for the 135i!
Now that the engine is in and I am wiring I have run into two problems. 1 the starter is not contacting the flywheel and just spins, and 2 the steering linkage is now not long enough to connect to the steering column even though it was perfect before the motor was in.
Is there a way to adjust the starter or do I just have to get a different starter? I mean it could just be that the starter needs some shims. Ill have to check it out on Monday. The steering linkage is a much bigger problem.
How did you not get the right started with your transmission/engine combo? Or you've pieced it together, in which case I have no clue why m20s would have different starters.
On the steering linkage, could it be that the subframe isn't where it was previously when you added the engine? Didn't you mount that thing from the subframe up, instead of dropping it in (too lazy to look back)?
Since you tease on the 135i, you need to share it with the new shoes on

Well I picked up a new starter for a 318i (e30) and it is a bit different. For one the gear that contacts the fly wheel is a bit larger. How ever at this point I am convinced it is a wiring problem, and not a starter problem. Both the starters I have, old and new, are behaving exactly the same when they are wired up. They are spinning but the solenoid is not pushing the gear forward to contact the flywheel. The second problem is that the starter does not stop spinning when the key clicks back to the neutral on position (from being all the way forward in the start position). All this tells me the wiring is fucked up. So its just a bunch of pain in the ass trouble shooting.
I figured the steering out with a friend yesterday. The steering shaft moved up and away from the steering rack just enough to make it not work when I welded the fire wall closed. Basically we had to very carefully cut the firewall back open a bit to allow the steering shaft to drop back down again. Its working fine now.
The tires for the 135i should show up today. Then I need to bring them into the shop to get mounted and balanced, which will be tricky seeing as we only have one working car right now... The 135i. I guess Ill just have to find a coffee shop around the tire shop where I can chill till they are done. Ill post up when its all done.

Is that a NRG hub you have used for the steering wheel or is that a different brand? Im looking to get the same wheel for my mk2 golf but cant seem to find an nrg hub for the mk2 so was wondering if a momo one will fit the wheel.

Got the motor to crank today! Now why dont I have any spark?
So the plugs I got from Blunttech had the wrong sized nipples that did not fit in the spark plug wires. Right now I am running the spark plugs with out any of those metal nipples on them at all. Could that cause them to not spark?
