Made a lot of progress today! Had a great set of helping hands. Thanks Mr. Darley!
Got the car in the garage, and the m10, trany, drive shaft and diff were out in three hours. We got all the wiring out of the car along with most of the dash instrumentation and fuel lines. Then I attacked the engine bay with a cut off wheel and a grinder.

Then it was time for lunch.

Then this happened!




I decided to take the time and cut the rusted out wheel well out. We will rivet some aluminum sheet in place later on.

That was it for the day. I feel like we got a good amount of work done. Tomorrow the plan is to take the brake booster out, clean the engine bay (degrees and grind/sand), bondo, and paint. More updates tomorrow night!

Got a good amount of stuff done today. It didnt seam like it though at the end of the day. I think I realized how much work I have to do today lol
We degreased the engine bay today and I started welding up some holes I wont need any more along with a few holes I should have left open. Nothing I can not drill out again. I also patched up the old fuse box hole. James went to work on the trunk with the grinder so we can Por-15 it. I got fed up with the welding fumes before I got around to grinding the welds down and doing any painting. I guess thats tomorrows plan.
Before anyone rags on my welds... This shit is THIN and I am no master welder. Working on it.

Awesome man! Seems like we're at a pretty similar stage when it comes to body stuff (you have looong outdone me in the engine department). I'm just learning how to weld the thin metal too, most of my welds look like bird poo at the moment. I will definitely be watching this more! Keep it up

also, seeing that burrito just made me super hungry haha

My welds on thicker stock are always nice. I have a really hard time getting the wire speed set right on the thin stuff. It always seams to be ether to slow, or to fast. I never get that nice even zzzzzzzzzz. It doesn't help that after you grind a spot down it will be thinner in some spots then others. I cant wait till I can fab some parts out of some thicker metal. I am going to go pick some square tube and aluminum sheet up today.

Well here is tonight's update. I got all the holes and such welded up and ground down, and took the entire engine bay down to bare metal. I also welded the front tow hook to the frame rail. I also picked up some metal for later on. Again when it is all done it does not look like much work but it was. I have to re-weld the section that I made to cover up the old fuse box hole. The first try was shit.
I got my ventilation system in hahaha

Und Ze Updaten Fur Todays Is...?
The engine bay did not get painted AGAIN! But it will get painted tomorrow. It is all wraped up and ready to paint. We just did not have the time to go through the Por-15 proses today. The trunk is ready for paint tomorrow as well. We got the spare tire well replaced with some aluminum :nice:

We were cleaning up today wondering how we were going to keep dust out of the engine bay and trunk when we found some left overs from Christmas. :


I also found a super sweet slant nose Porsche today. Needs a bit of work.

what'd you use to strip the engine bay? you did a really good job getting rid of all the paint. Loving the progress so far! Did you buy that porsche?

I didnt buy the Porsche
It had a bunch of signs on it, but apparently some one stole his car cover and he wants it back.
I used a flapy paddle disk for the side grinder. It is wonderful! They last for ever as well.

Yep. We got the trunk and engine bay painted today. We also got the brake booster bolted back up along with the pedal box, I welded my self some pedals, I cut the stock seat rails out, I cut part of the metal dash under section out to make room for the e30 steering column, I BROKE THE FRONT WINDOW :down: (it was already cracked...), we got the heater box delete in, and we got the the front sub frame back in.
The plan for tomorrow is to fab up the steering rack mounts and get that all welded up along with the steering column. Then Saturday we want to try and get the m20 in place. :

We started fitting and fabricating the steering rack and its mount. We are having some problem with the steering coupler and the way it has to bend to reach the steering column. Most of the day was spent just standing around scratching my head and thinking things through. Ill take some more pictures tomorrow that shows what we are up against.
Does anyone know of any builds in which some one had to fabricate steering couplers and showed how they did it?
