  • I prefer this way of the 2. The other reminds me of a kite for some reason.

Also good call on the goal to actually have this car on the road for most of the summer. Though I did see it twice last year.

    I like em dropped.

        • I like the line routing you eventually settled with. Some potential to go to hard lines along the frame rails, but still good as is.

And where did you get that catch can? I was going to fab up my own but that looks like a nice piece.

Kinda like how the Mitsubishi 3000GT in the U.S. also came in the form of a Dodge Stealth. :P

            Proof:

It also states this on wikipedia. hahaha

            Both actually. lol
I took the pic a while back, and photoshopped the wheels I had lying around at the time for lulz.

            Here's how it currently sits:

It's currently maxed out on BC Coilovers off of a Cruze. Still needs moar low. :P
I currently have a set of 17x8 BBS Style 5's lying around, but I'm not sure if I want to redrill those for my Sonic, or find some other wheels to redrill/throw adapters on. (My car has an incredibly stupid bolt pattern, so don't even get me started on the find wheels that fit argument. hahaha)
Car is off to a great start, dude!

I **** both line routings, honestly, but if I had to choose one I would agree with your pick.

And yeah... I really just want to get the car out now. I've worked on it for a large handful of time and I just want to enjoy it again.

            I miss turbo noises.

I haven't settled with any line routing for fuel yet. I do intend on doing a lot of hard-lining and making it pretty. This will be my last time running fuel lines.

The catch can is an eBay unit with a separator plate fabbed into it by my cousin and myself. It is also packed with copper scrub pads. I drilled and tapped the top hole as well.

An empty can will do no catching of anything, haha.

Didn't do much tonight, feels good to be home pretty early.

Trimmed my bumper out today and fit it on the car with the IC tonight. Fits PERFECT. Intercooler couldn't be anymore forward, which is awesome. Turns out I can measure shit from time to time.

I took a quick shot at the shop from the door before I left, also. You can see Mike's freshly painted (I'm not lying) 1jz e30 covered in dust, because he refuses to buy a car cover.

I also mapped out and ordered all fittings minus the one for the turbo for the crankcase evac setup. They'll (for the most part) be here tomorrow.

Also ordered titanium header wrap today, for my downpipe. The black stuff I used last summer didn't impress me, and this stuff looks a whole lot nicer.

Anyways, not a huge update, but it's still something.

              • So this may or may not be a long post as things roll of my mind.. To begin I just read all 25 pages of your thread getting drawn in every update you did. I then had to make an account to say this, your work is nothing short of inspirational. I'm 18 and have a cavalier as my first car that isn't even on the road and yet I have over $1,000 in parts, with much more to be spent. Going one paycheck to the next as just a night clerk. I first saw your cavy on google looking for slammed cavaliers and was like this is just amazing and what I dream of. So actually finding you, your build, and being able to say this to you is an honor. I wish I had the craftsmanship you have. So in all as I said your an inspiration. To me and many more as I've read. I actually got a tow strap because of you! But, I just wanted you to know that what your doing is absolutely amazing and I thank you for putting this build up for everyone. Keep on going with this project because...well because I can tell you've come to love this car.

It does fit properly, believe it or not. It's about the only thing on the car that actually does. Maybe that's why it looks out of place?

                  Regardless, thanks!

Wow man, that means a lot! Thanks a tonne!

Shop bound in a few, got a bunch of fittings and shit today, so I've got work to do.

                      Thanks! Hahaha.

Went to the shop last night, was one of those "no matter what I did it wasn't going right" sorta nights.

And then, by complete mistake, I had a brain-wave for the new skid plate. It is going to be HUGE.

                      Starting this weekend.

Where did you get them and how hard was it to put them on because I think its a great idea and doesn't look bad at all. Another is what suspension setup are you using to get it so low.. I plan on getting the bc coilovers for mine but wanted to know what you were running on yours? Thanks!

They're Dzuz fasteners, they're all over the internet. Honestly, I only installed that part in the bumper to see how it looks. I have new front fenders to go on and I want to make sure the front sheet metal is 100% lined-up before I make the brackets for those.

Suspension is all completely hand-built. It's mostly in the first few pages of this thread.

So, I know what you're all thinking, "Why hasn't this asshole updated this thread in 36 hours?"

Basically, because fuck you, that's why.

That, and I really haven't done anything worth showing off. I spent most of the weekend finishing miniscule welding in the engine bay, only to run out of welding gas at 10 on Saturday night.

So, no pictures of that, cause everything looks almost identical. The bay steel work is 99.8% complete, which makes me pretty well fucking so happy I could jump through hoops.

I started laying out my modules tonight. Started with the PCM (powertrain) and BCM (Body). Everything will be as tightly knit under the dash as physically possible. I want to keep real estate relatively open and also keep the wiring very neat and tidy.

I started by making the PCM bracket:

It bolts to the four perimeter bolts of the PCM, I'll get four rubber grommets for the bracket-to-firewall holes tomorrow and create a couple studded plates to spot weld to the firewall.

I then built a bracket for the BCM that bolts through the heat-sink in the PCM, I'll be final drilling it tomorrow and getting bolts as well. But it bolts through the back side of the BCM, which has ample room inside it for a few bolt heads.

I intend to order my firewall bulkhead this week and start wiring the car ASAP.

The first meet is May 25th, just found out tonight, and at very least I would fucking LOVE to have the car drive it's own ass on the trailer.

Few small randoms, I wrapped the primary section of my downpipe:

It's a titanium wrap by DEI, and it is ten-thousand percent nicer than that black crap I had last year on the old downpipe.

Next, this whole bolt-in roll bar thingy. Where the rear bars attach, there are bolt holes. In my opinion, thanks to my OCD, having actual bolts/nuts there would look absolutely horrendous and drive me fucking bat shit crazy. Even though you can't really see them,

So I came up with this, to use a PTO shaft clip from a tractor. Now, they definitely don't fit like I want. The pin is obviously too long, and it is also 1/8" too skinny. I'll likely wind up making my own pins and fashion the steel clip over to them. This gives me a good idea of what to base my idea off of, though.

I think that's it? More tomorrow. In theory, should have the PCM/BCM thingy-majig mounted.

                                Thanks, dude!

I have been unable to obtain frigin welding gas all week thus far, apparently it is as fucking rare as the loch-ness around here. Decided I'd start tackling wiring, going surprisingly well, actually.

The worst part, as always, is de-looming everything. I've also completely removed all wiring of accessories that have gotten the boot, pin to pin. HVAC, A/C, Wipers/washers, SIR, I think that's it.

Here's a bunch of terrible fucking pictures of shitty looking wiring.

Once the modules are mounted, I can start actually running wiring cleanly and making the connections. I intend to wire in all my aftermarket modules into the factory harness aswell, Making everything clean and easily removeable. Because, for whatever reason, I honestly don't feel this will be the last time the car goes back together.
