Leave it in. When it's painted it will look fine, plus those bead rolls make it stronger.
Stressed all weekend, decided I'm gonna leave it, once the engine is in for good and it's all painted it will be fine. Plus, with all the added room of the steering change, a great big sidewinder turbo setup would hide that real well.
HOLY CRAP! I'm speechless, this is amazing, keep it up
Thanks!
On an unrelated topic, took a drive down to Ohio yesterday and picked up a 4 point roll bar. It was Mike Barr's, unsure of his name on here, but anyways he hooked me up and was willing to drive quite a distance to meet me, it is very much appreciated dude!
I cannot get over how well this thing fits in the car, it's beyond perfect. I will leave it gold until I have the interior panelling cut out to fit, and then I will have it powdercoated the same candy teal that the wheel faces are.
Tick Tick Tick... Just waiting for this thing to be finished. Coming from being an S-10 owner and ive seen yours, it makes me more excited to see what your cav comes out looking like once its finished.
Also +1 for the bead-rolled firewall!

Put on my big boy pants tonight and knocked out the firewall for good. I'm very happy with the way it turned out and I think it will flow pretty well all painted up.
I re-made the column pass-through and a couple filler panels.
I made the "hvac" filler first, here:
And then cut the shitty pass-through out:
I wanted to make the new pass-through flow better, and not have a sharp edge to tie into the middle area of the firewall. I wound up making the new piece by bending the sheet metal around a piece of tube I had laying around, it actually worked really well.
Welded everything up and ground it smooth, overall I'm pretty happy with it.
I have yet to finish completely welding in the large filler with the bead rolls, but once that is done, I have two tiny holes to fill on either strut tower, one seam on the right side wheel tub to weld and I can start mudding.
Keep up the good work, the firewall has come a long fucking way. How much welding do you have left on it?
Thanks, man. I think so, too. I need to finish welding in that main panel with the bead rolls in it. I also intend on adding some overlapping/spot-welded panels on the interior of the firewall to mimick the factory firewall and also to help strengthen it. The majority of the welding is done, though!
And with this update I realized I never asked what you headed to Ohio for haha.
I figured you'd find out sooner or later!
I got the cage bolted in this evening, it was super easy and very stress-free... was nice for a change, haha!
I noticed immediately that the bolts that go through the floor are now the lowest part of the car, not ideal. I almost immediately came up with a fix and genuinely wanted nothing to do with it tonight, so I'll deal with it maybe this weekend. It will be a sort-of skid-pad design.
Threw the car back together tonight, going to roll it outside tomorrow and take some full-bodied shots so I can finally see in full view how it sits and just because I want to.
With the engine in, I can offically say any worry I had with the firewall is completely gone. I am fully in-like with it.
Without the front bumper on, you can see just how wide the wheel sits on the car.
I was gifted some leftover -3 AN bulk heads and miscellaneous fittings from a friends build, freebies are awesome. This puts a serious gain on ordering the rest of my brake line fittings.
I'll be sure to post up the outdoor shots tomorrow.
