Yes, going with the VG. The 1UZ didn't quite sit with me, so I got my head out of my a** and went with what I should have from the get-go. More compact, more potential out of the gate, capable of 1000+ whp. And of course the music is much more fitting.
A little update... spent the past weekend camping out at Road America for the American LeMans Series. Once again it came down to the last lap, last corner, with a difference of 0.08" seconds between first and second place.
The prototypes are fast, but these two beast are why we were there:
Now onto what matters. I was able to get the upper intake manifold off, along with a pile of other unwanted accesories. Still a long ways to go but I'm able to see where it's going... I've never been a fan of dual intake plenums out at the sides, but there's very limited room to do a large single plenum, so that is still up in the air.
The valve covers have to go. Complete eye-sore. The coils may also be replaced for some less ungainly units from a GT-R... at the very least the mega brackets which hold them will be replaced.
The two cast water outlets at the front will be tossed for some flanges AN-fittings, or new hard lines. Air conditioning will be tossed.
power steering and bracketry
AC compressor and bracketry
stock motor mounts - new mounts to be made down the line)
stock crank pulley - new single belt pulley already in the works - slight underdriven at 6.00" diameter with a weight of 1.55 pounds (compared to stock at 13.4 i believe it is?)
alternator and water pump pulleys - to be replaced
stock alternator brackets - new bracket will put the alt. higher and tighter to the motor, and not look like a**.
cam gear covers
EGR and PVC components
stock oil pan - to be replaced
valve covers - to be replaced with something less ungainly, and more compact
stock intake manifold - to be replaced, design TBD
stock coils, or at least the brackets which currently hold them
water inlet and outlets - flanged with fittings for new lines
stock turbochargers and manifolds, of course.
There's more, but that's what I can think of at 8 am...
A few shots of the VG and tranny mocked up in their approximate location. The extremely low seating position combined with the much higher than stock trans location (relative to the stock floor) puts the shifter up nice and high. The engine will sit about 1.5" higher than shown, puting the intake manifold through the hood. Unless of course I go with dual plenums similar to stock, which I really don't want to do.
