Jealous of your cars and your location. Good luck on the build.

i have a feeling this is going to end up a tread for both of my cars...

since the prelude is officially mine now i figured it was time for have a little fun with it. The gauge cluster was a bit hoe-hum from the factory so i decided to do something about that today. here is what i had to start with.

    off with the surround

and then out with the cluster

alright here we have the cluster on the bench ready to be taken apart

had to take the clear shield and the bezels out, i have seen this done without removing the bezels from the main cluster but the people who do that are just making things harder for themselves.

now for the fun part, the gauge bezel actually has removable rings that surround each gauge. to pop them off you need the GENTLY push the tiny pins from behind to get them to come out. i have heard they are really easy to break but luckily i didn't have that much trouble.

    and popped out

got a can of aluminum colored paint

    and bingo!

next up is changing the color of all the interior lights but i am going to wait on that till i have the rest of the stereo ready to go in. i have decided to put the kenwood stuff i bought a number of year ago for the corrado into the prelude since it is overkill for the opel and i have had it listed for sale for a long time with no bites. just have to pic up a headunit and some speakers and i'll be golden. Plus my dad has wanted to do a stereo build with me for a while so this will be a good low-key project for the two of us to do together!

    why thank you!

as for the paint i have decided to keep the original paint on the car for as long as i can plus i would rather have a ratty car i can drive as opposed to a pretty car i can't

also the reason why i keep saying it looks like a vette is because the c3 vette and the Opel GT were designed by the same team. they first went over to germany and did the GT and then immediately flew back to the states and designed the vette. chevy guys want to say it happened the other way around but you know how knowledgable chevy guys can be hehe

wow....People call this a miniature vette, but to me it looks like a Ferrari 250 gto. The flat tail pan especially. That red color you have is just stunning! One of my dream cars. I applaud your taste and apparent attention to detail!

yay for being done for with finals!

went down for a little bit and got the speedo cable out so motor is ready to drop and then i tried my hand to polishing and i think there are some things that i can do and some things i won't but we'll see i have a bunch of spare parts i can practice on so we'll see how that goes.

yeah i was not interested in getting an auto. the 5speed in this shifts pretty good but it feels like it could use a gear oil change
i think only the autos had issues. I hear the manuals are muych better.

    alright time for a story

So after i got my the Opel I decided i wanted to change up the daily. i had been driving that white e36 with the art wheels but it was becoming a PITA and i wanted to ditch it so i sold it. I then traded the wheels for a non-running Audi 90 10v Quattro 5 Speed. After working on it for a while it became clear that he car wasn't worth my time so i traded it for a running e30 325e Auto. I had planned on just driving the thing for the winter and then getting rid of it in the spring for another Lexus sc400 since i miss my old one soooooo much.

    Funny how things change...

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving I am went out to dinner with my brother who was in town, my father and my father's girlfriend. We were talking about what my dad's girlfriend to replace her Prius when she said she had a prelude stashed away. I said, "you have a prelude?" and she said, "Yeah, do you want it?" I said hell yeah i did. She didn't think i was serious but my dad told her that when i say I'll buy a car i mean it. She told me to come take a look at it so today i went out to pick it up.

    So here she is!

1998 Prelude Base 5 Speed w/ drumroll please.......... 72K on the clock!

has a bunch of small issues and is a bit beat up for the miles but all the key points are good. don't really think i am going to do much to it until the Opel is sorted but I'm just happy to be in a newer car again, it has been quite a while since i have had anything with OBD2 hehe

thanks for the kind words everyone, i can't tell you all how much it means to me!

hopefully i'm picking up a new daily tomorrow that i'll want to keep for more than a year. it is also going to be my first non-euro car in 3 years, a 98 prelude with under 70k on the clock
