    More bits.

This is a 250 turbo S clutch kit- (omg another £200)

I need the clutch to take the extra hp (this is good for well over 300 hp), the new fork is wider to fit over the bigger relese bearing. The flywheel is larger in diameter than the N/a this is needed for the bigger clutch. Also there are more timing teeth, so this is needed to use turbo managment.

Also have a mercedes sprinter intercooler, not sure if I'm using it yet. (free)

First of the bling bits ! aqua blasted my inlet and throttle body

    (all was stripped and reassembled)

    Before-

    After-

And stuck the sump in the degreser tank.

Also I have removed the blanking plug form the balance shaft case and tried the turbo oil feed banjo bolt in it, whey...

    Plan of action...

    1. Remove head - inspect bores (if block is FKD dave has a good spare)

    2. Remove bottom end from car, fit clutch and pistons using original rods and bearings (disturb less as possible) refit bottom end.

    3. Buy headgasget, refit head & manifolds fuel rail ect (and exhaust if it has turned up > )

    4. By this time I should have the cash to collect the remaining parts which are all small jobs, engine loom & ECUs, j pipe and AFM maybe cooler and pipes if I don't use the one I have.

I have enough bits to get on with it, ive started to strip it, the head would have been off today but the stupid design cam box has sunken very tight allen bolts, which were stronger than my allen key, so I now have to drill the head on one.... tomorow job.

Front is stripped, bumper/bonnet/valance/badge pannel and manifolds & ancilarys are removed.

This week i have also got a full exhaust system genuine turbo (£100) the rear part will be modified though.

Im using a standard wastegate from a 250, i expect i will shim the spring though, as boooost is wanted.

The O.Z were sold, i just could not keep them nice, i use this in snow/salt and it makes a lot of brake dust. They were not laquerd and i was cleaning them daily. The Azevs are much easier to keep nice.

Rannam, i think it will be ok, only going for 280-300hp

I have a wastegate on its way, so just a few bits to collect now.

Thanks guys for comments, pushes the mojo..

Im not 100% sure about that 400hp is the edge for the stock clutch.. Just some guy on rennlist who posted it

Anyways.. Im running about 280hp on mine, and my clutch does not slip at all.. Not sure how long ago it were changed last time. Pretty sure im running stock on mine.

How many hp are you aming for with your setup?

No worries on the box, ive got spare n/a boxes. If it dies it dies...

Interesting piont about the clutch, my old 944 tbo was 290hp and it would slip a little on a hard launch, maybe the clutch was on its way out. (a lot of the parts on this are from that car)

300hp is plenty, to go more is at great cost and im doing this as a cheap project, if i spend too much i wont be able to sell it on.

I do go on rennlist, not much though.

Just because my gearbox works fine with this setup, doesnt mean it is a rock solid solution.. But if i were you, i would go for it

About the clutch.. I have read that 400hp (at the flywheel) is at the edge of what a stock turbo clutch can hold So i think you should be just fine going with a stock one.. Considering that you wouldnt be able to crack 400hp with the setup you are aming for, sorry

I know some 951 drivers upgrade the clutch with a pressure plate from the 930. Wich wil keep the stock feeling, but holds against more hp. So ive heard..

You should check out www.forums.rennlist.com (if you havent) to clear out your tech questions! Great site, with great amount of knowledge about the 944/951

Like the new update! Keep the progress flowing!!

Thanks Rannem, thats good to know, i was worried about the box, do you know the max power you can put through a factory turbo clutch?

    todays parts-

    Pistons, with pins and rings.

Injector rail with greens and 3 bar regulator

Turbo oil feed, I just checked my n/a block and it has a blanking allen bolt where this needs to go - no drilling required!

Breather pot with extra breather for engine mount (as the oil return goes through it)

There are plenty of hoses and heat sheilds ect given to me by porsche dave, but no realy worth a photo..another batch £100!

You were talking about using the NA gearbox with the turbo engine.

Then i can tell you that the -83 944 i have, uses the same setup you are aiming for. Turbo engine with NA gearbox. The engine has upgraded chips, exhaust, WG etc. and has about 280hp. This setup has been running as a daily drive for about 10 years now and the gearbox is still strong

Since the NA gearbox has shorter gears than the turbo, it makes 0-60 ALOT faster. Personally tested it against my -90 951 (250bhp)

The only downside for me is that the NA gearbox is without the limited slip differential. So if you manage to find a NA gearbox with the LSD, that would be a killer!

Looking forward to see the engine assembled! Hope you realize the potential in this car when you put the engine together, and then decide not to sell it
