I've driven a few, but most have been well over the 500hp mark, so it's not really a fair comparison. But the stock ones do suck a little, until you realize how much fun it is and how cool you look haha.

There is a difference between patina and a car having character, rather than it being a steaming shit box.
You're still not understanding what I'm trying to say..
I completely agree with you about the shitty car buisness. I never said having a shitty car is okay because of it's "personality".

If not then it would be a highway cruiser

I wish my GN had the suspension setup from the GNX, car doesnt handle terrible but needs some work. I personally feel for 80's cars the GN takes the spot for speed. with about 1000$-$1500 I will be in the low 11's.
A friend of mine owns a 60' Ford Falcon that passes new mustangs all day on the track, so it's entirely possible to make them handle really well.

I totally agree with that. Especially when every old man in town stops you to tell you about when he had one growing up.

I've owned so many different kinds of cars that I feel like I can say this... You all are arguing about hamburgers and hot dogs here. People are going to feel different ways about driving different cars. Some more closed minded than others, but it comes down to opinion and personal preferences. The argument that old cars are better just because they are old and have character though? Come on now... I can see that maybe when comparing a classic Ferrari to a new Kia, but not every new car should be written off as a loss just because you've driven one or two and you didn't feel "connected". The joy I get from driving my old ass Mercedes is cool and all, but then I hop in my FRS it's one of the best handling cars I've ever driven. It's an absolute blast to drive and 10x more fun than any 240 or old muscle car I've ever owned. But hey, that's my opinion. I'll forever love the style of old classics over most new cars, but no reason to bash on new cars because they are more advanced than what you drive. That's like saying I **** super models because my girlfriend has hair in her back fat rolls...
I wasn't saying that old cars are better, I was just stating that I enjoy them a lot more.
So I totally agree with you man.

I can go for days but

New cars suck. Sure I might not be able to afford one now.... But I have plenty friends with e90's e92's e46m the new 135 I also drove.... My other buddy has a e55 all great cars but would I put my self in a hole just to feel good about my self! NOPE! And Shea is right it seems that newer cars drive them selfs.... I actually like the slight wheel vibration on 80+ mph in my 27 year old car! And I like the fact that I see my engine when I open up my hood. I like changing my own oil w no reset bs involved in the cars comp. Like dealer crap! I also like that I can change my own oil for under 40 Bucks and takes about 20 min only..... Try removing plastic bs for 20mins just to get to your filter! LOL

And cheaper parts are a plus... Used/refurbished parts are even a bigger plus! I just like the feel of older cars.....

Now my car has a fresh rebuild and actually moves.....With that being said I have a pretty functional older car that I do truly love.... I don't know I just love pulling out a Dipstick to check my oil less shit to fail in the long run!

Lets see that plastic car of yours make it to 300K!
Exactly, it's just the love for being connected with your car.

I've had a lot more fun in my Dad's Prius than I care to admit, taking that thing to it's limits is a ton of fun.
Well yeah, I've had plenty of fun in new cars.
I just don't enjoy them enough to own them.

Man, I am 100% the same lines as the original post. I'd take a classic car over a new one any day. As long as it wasn't some lame old Buick that nobody cares about. I'm not going to defend those.

i love people that "don't need a/c". if you want to purposefully make yourself uncomfortable, fine you do that,

i don't mind driving with the windows down when its hot, but i **** humidity. with no a/c you're screwed if its super humid outside. in my area, the average humidity is 78% from may to september. that's the average, its usually 85-87% in the morning and and 70-72% while driving home. i see no point in arriving at work already sweating...
when it's hotter outside with the windows down, rolling down the windows don't mean shit
Hatchbacks, wagons... It's NOT all the same. You want in? Don't get a mazda 3, get a mazda 6 wagon. Don't get a wrx get a legacy wagon. and theres a reason the A3 isn't called the A3 avant... Scion does not make a wagon it makes a weird van, but no wagons

          Sincerely,

P.S. Is your tail a wagon?

          Show cars are lame.

I'd have to say for me personally I am stuck in the 90's! All the "newer" car options is def nice for a daily drive, but for whatever reason I still find my self without power anything, no cup holders, and still loving my car lol. (89 Wagovan BTW)

exactly, i pretty much refuse to drive a car without working a/c. if im spending the money to insure it, put gas in it, and mod it, the f-ing a/c better work!

You tried to differentiate "character" and "personality", and tried to justify your point. I am telling you that your definition of "personality" as you stated it, makes your car a piece of shit. Character, sure I'll give you that some old cars have a great deal of "character", but I've seen new cars with just as much "character". The only difference is you see many more of the new cars on the road right now because they are, you know... new, and what's being bought right now.

I love old cars as much as the next guy, but your inability to enjoy new cars sounds like a personal problem.

Define "new" when you say "new cars with just as much character", Kelly.

Because I'm going to have to call bullshit on that one.

New M sport BMWs. They have a presence about them. New Fords, the fusion in particular, tons of it. The same can be said of the 458, and Aventador.

Just because a car is new doesn't mean it has character. So many people say "oh that car has character" and the only thing they can come up with is because it's old and "different" to what we see on the road now. So if those cars were new now, would that mean that they didn't have character? All of these cars are mass produced and at one time or another dominated the road, when they were new did those cars not have that "character" that they do now?

The new Fusion has character? To me it's just a Mazda 6 with a different body. Or a Mondeo. I do like the grille though.

i think the new fr-s/brz and the genesis coupe have some "character" about them, and they are damn nice.

I think people are confusing the word "character" with "presence".

Any expensive new car is flashy and gets attention, that doesn't mean it has character- that would be presence. Character is something that happens with time, age, and wear.

So then by your definition no new car can have character. So then when these old cars that everyone says has so much "character" when they were new, they had none?

So what does that mean for old cars with fresh paint, and all new parts on them? And fully restored cars? They have no character as well?
