I was hoping to go 3pc with this move as I do miss having something multipiece but honestly nothing really caught my eye in the new or used market unless it was close to $3000 range and would still need some work for me to be happy. So went with something simple that I know I like.
Wheels will be here today.
Sadly it's a long day for me for me so normal work plus 4 hours at the shop with a frame notch scheduled in for a customer today. So I'll be rushing home from the shop to put them on.
Im honestly not the biggest fan of the 3pc Modernlines since they are not as concaved as the 1pc versions plus the specs are a no go for the corrado sadly.
Spent a little time over the weekend working the corrado.
My goal was to get the front down a bit more since the car had some reverse rake going on which I am not a fan of.
Started by removing the coilovers and see what could be removed and lowered. Took out two of smaller sized lock rings and since the cx racing coilovers are body adjustable I lower the bodies as low as they could go before hitting the cv boot. Untitled by gtikole gtikole, on Flickr
As you can see Ithen put the lock ring against the body mount. Went to put a wheel and could tell something was hitting. The spring was hitting the barrel.
I tired to adjust the camber so the wheel could get away from the spring but then the wheels poked way to much. So I spun the lock ring up just a bit until the barrel cleared the the spring. The barrel and the lock ring have to be 2mm or less away from each other but as a friend once told me "if those move independent of each other then you have bigger issues". Got both sides set the same and got the car back on the guy and went for a test drive. No rubbing when driving so it was good to go. I am looking a ways to each buy shorter and stiff springs for the front and rears, More so the front had more wheel to strut clearance. But I have also be debating buying new coilovers custom built by either Broadstatic or BC that would have shorter bodies and use smaller and stiffer Swift springs & be properly valved for the spring rates & size.
But all the work got me here. Fender just about to tuck tire bead before the fender was barely tucking the top of the tire. Untitled by gtikole gtikole, on Flickr
Other than that just took it out and enjoyed it a bunch this weekend since it was nice out. Hopefully be able to do more of that this week as it seems like it is going to be nice out.
Went out yesterday and shot a few photos of the corrado. I planned on taking more but I left this location and the starter solenoid throught suicide was a the best way out and the starter motor was spinning constantly as I was driving. Got the car home and got the battery disconnected once I figured the problem out. Luckly I have a warranty on the starter so I'll just pull it and have another one ordered.
love it, new wheel look 100 times better. cant help but think that front lip doesnt jive with the rest of the car. i think i smaller one, would make the car look a lot cleaner.

i think you just missing sideskirts and that's what throwing you off
Sadly they never cam from factory with any type of side skirt (USDM or EDM). I can do an ABT rep skirts (textured or paint matched) but they really not make the sides look that much lower. I may pick a set up a textured set at some point
I have been thinking about swapping the stock g60 lip back on and see if I like the look since the car is much lower now than it was last year when it was on for a day.
Love it dude, the Schmidt's !! didn't you have a set on RED ?
and if the strut body lowers how close is it to the CV boot ?
thinking of doing it to the bora if i can with my BC BR coils

Thanks man!
I did have a set in the same specs on red just with flat caps (which I'm ordering for this set soon). In all reality the corrado has become Red 2.
All the plans I had for Red just went into this car.
Yeah the more you spin it down the closer it gets to the cv boot. right now mine are about as far down as they can go before they will hit the cv boot. I'm hopeing to switch to Broadway's soon and have the shortest body possible so I dont have to worry about hitting the boots as much.
In other new new starter will be here today. I'll get that swapped in and swap out the front lips just to see if I like the look of the US lip instead of the huge 90mm lip. (May switch to a spoonfed 70mm lip, best of both worlds)
I could not pass up picking up a 1980 early westy MK1, I have wanted one for far too long. I have had it for a few works and really have just been fixing issues and getting it to sit more proper, which was included shorting bump stops, getting the coils to spin freely again, rolling arches and giving the front a little front camber. Hoping to swap the wheels out for something a bit more period correct. It's a fun change when 15x7 et25 with a 165/40 is an aggersive wheel set up compared to what I'm use to. I already tired the corrados old wheels but they just do not fit up front at all, hitting the strut and poking out like 2.5". It will get an aba swap at some point.
