I'm a huge fan of his car. I've always wanted to do a brushed raw body car or polished steel so when I got this Merc it was my first thought. So I took to the internet and sure enough it had been done (and very well I might add). So I had to change things up and make it my own. I believe he's in the process of swapping a Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale motor into his now though and going for the whole pro street thing, so the rest of us W114/15 owners basically suck now.

My 2cts are; leave the engine with its original patina. Or it depends on how clean you are going to strip the rest of the car I guess...
I am copper plating the entire car and letting it mildly patina (not green, just a brownish oxidation before sealing it), so not everything has to be all perfectly clean. I do like to have nice clean accents though, just not sure the motor is destined to be one of them. The bay is getting shaved and either plated like the rest of the car or painted a gloss black.

Got most of the motor stripped down, just a few more things left and then time to clean 40+ years of grime off. Debating whether to just clean it or paint it as well.

Finally got around to pulling the motor. Now just need to drop the subframes, soda blast the chassis, fix the rest of the rust and primer all the hidden areas.

Either that or a 308, really just a matter of what I can find for the right price. I do prefer the various detail differences of the 308 though.

I'm with you, its actually my shop mate that picked this one up and for $400 I can't blame him. I offered him double that before we got it off the trailer, but I'm still very happy I chose the sedan for my project. On arrival of the coupe though one thing that was off-putting was the rear quarter body line had a sharp edge (the sedan has a round one) that didn't flow at all with the rest of the round edged front lines. The trunk seems a little too big and I wanted to like the lack of a B pillar, but seemed weird from certain perspectives. In the end, I'd probably still buy one if I found a deal similar to that, but probably only to restore it, drive it for a little and sell it.

I think I'm leaning more towards getting into W108/9's at this point. Either that or move away from Mercedes all together considering he's got those grounds pretty covered. I'd like to get back into the older BMW's again or possible try to find a Ferrari 328.

Just about got everything ready for the motor to come out last night, will probably pull it tonight. Then probably going to soda blast the bay and weld fill all the extra holes and grooves. Subframe and everything else will be coming out too for paint, will be doing gloss black for that.
