It might be best to combine the intercooler piping and have it split off on the right side. I would love to see the DET plenum on the DETT.
I'm not really keen on the DET plenum. To be honest it just looks like a cheat of a way to keep each bank receiving roughly the same volume of air despite being fed from one side only. Both banks are completely split with a valve on top that presumably opens at higher RPM to help balance the pressure between the two. Wouldn't be necessary if it was symmetrical.

thank you. you know the pains of fitting a single intake - I am trying to avoid having a kink straight off of the stock lower plenum going to vertical runners. to be honest the DET lower plenum looks like too much work to fit to the DETT heads - doable, but will require major head gutting and then weld build up to make it happen. I might just get the DETT lower plenum milled down an inch or so then weld custom runners to it to make the whole process simpler. I'm considering then mating those runners to one of these - the dimensions seem ideal for hood clearance.

On the plenum subject: The Cima plenum doesn't flow as well as the J30/Z32 plenum. Nissan redesigned the plenum specifically for the DETT engine, and the "new-style" plenum is less restrictive. However, if you're going to fabricate a plenum from scratch to attach to the lower intake manifold, it seems like the Cima plenum would be advantageous, as the port configuration lends itself better to a simple plenum design.
I'm not sure about the way they line up, I'd imagine they fit the '89-90 heads, but as of the time of me writing this, I am unaware. Time to do a little searching.
Thanks for the kind words and welcome to the forum. Unfortunately the DET lower plenum doesn't fit any generation of DETT heads. Because the runners are so much shorter and both generations of runners funnel, the DET runners taper in closer to the valve. They are much larger when lined up with the DETT head ports.

Nice find there. Most of the carbing stuff I see is aluminium like yours. My bar is old school heavy steel. Good in my case since the design is so convoluted, but alloy is preferable most of the time.

so for some silly reason, I've seen you post in tons of other threads but never checked out your build. MY BAD. you had me at
At the time I was still go go go, so dad's ladder became a sacrificial lamb
which may be late in the game, but its the first page that opened. that's exactly how I build shit lolz. I will now click submit reply, then go to the top of the page and click to thread tools and subscribe to your build. after that, I'm reading from page one. bravo dude, keep on building

Alright the next project still isn't quite finished but I have accumulated a few new parts recently so I thought I'd chuck those up. Been ages since I had a real update for this thread.

First up was some parts from Ultra Racing. Since I'm working on the diffuser at the moment and I want a chance of it actually working one day it's mounted up to align with the underbody, ready to later team up with an undertray. To get this right I had to order in the the lowest hanging component on the chassis; a four point subframe brace.

    This is an Ultra Racing original and was pretty cheap. It was however baaaaaad for ground clearance... let me paint a picture for you;

    - where it bolts on at the front it replaces an OEM trans tunnel brace, this is 5mm thick
    - the UR brace at that point is 25mm thick
    - my OEM brace is bashed to shit from scraping

    ...yeeeeeeeaeeeeeeeeah.

Since so much stuff was going to be located off of the height of this bracket alone I stared at it for a while and decided to chop it up and raise it. It looked like the whole thing hung low in order to clear one small point on the chassis. Que the torch and mallet.

With some cutting, shutting and combining with the OEM subframe brackets I got the brace 15mm higher up than it was originally. Result!

Sorry for the crappy pic. Brace is now well up against the body and doesn't look like it's tacked on.

I also got one of their C-pillar bars out of curiosity to see if it would work as a harness bar.

While this wouldn't have been the best way to mount a harness it turns out to not really matter anyway because apparently my seats are for tiny Japanese people.

That's a pic of my 6'2" buddy sitting in my seat with makeshift strap in place. As you can see the eyelet on the seat is way below his shoulder, meaning if he was to have a stack his spinal column would be squished to smithereens. I'm only 5'11" and I have the same problem. So the bar had to get sold, no harnesses for me. Diddums.

I also imported an ARC front sway bar that was sitting on eBay for ages and ages. The Whiteline bar I put in not too long ago while effective is very very god damn heavy. ARC and Impul are the only hollow sway bar manufacturers for the Z32 and they're very very hard to find now. Just the front one was available but I'm happy with that as that's where all the weight saving is.

    Stock: 4.5 kg
Whiteline: 9 kg (nearly 20 pounds god dammit)
    Auto Refine Company: 3.9 kg

    Now that's a real modification.

Got my rear rotors too, Z34 350mm two piece from Racing Brake. All Z34 two piece rotors are expensive as shit so I was stoked to get these cheap second hand still not used. They were sent over to me by a buddy in LA through his work freight to save on shipping too (thank you Edgar!). This is great because now I have everything I need to get onto the brake project.

They look pretty hilarious with my Tommy K calipers mocked up behind the Modena faces.

And lastly some more opportunistic odds and ends. Sniping bargains seems to be all I can justify buying these days.

Landed a Turbosmart FPR 800 and a Nissan Cima intake system including lower plenum, upper plenum and fuel rails. The Cima ran a factory single turbo Z32 motor with slightly different heads and totally different upper and lower plenums. The lower plenum is of interest as the runners come up vertical rather than in a crossflow formation, making it much easier to fit a single intake plenum (obviously, as the Cima had one [it's an abomination though]).

As it stands I'm unsure about using it; while it bolts up to the DETT heads the ports are quite a bit off lining up. That's partially because the ports on the Cima runners are larger though, which I might be able to carry through to the valve. Can't make up my mind 'til I do some more digging. The Cima also runs a top feed, side return injector/rail system which is pretty hilarious.

More to come when I hopefully actually finish the diffuser project.

    -A

jordon it's funny how many people have a soft spot for the car; despite the wedge. once you get talking to some individuals one on one they seem to forget the preimpregnated internet image and say something like; "I never minded these things".

I honestly can't remember at this point what it was that was causing me issues at the time, but I know I did end up sorting it out near the end. by that point I wasn't overly fussed about aesthetic quality so I didn't even bother grinding them back. shitty, I know, but caring too much just makes you unhappy

Just read the whole thing from start to finish, really good build so far with a good mix of your own engineering and rare branded parts. Always had a bit of a soft spot for z32's since playing gran tourismo 3 where i had a mad 900bhp one haha, like a ood wedge shaped car too!

Thanks everyone, glad you like it. Lento, there was a pair of new old stock calipers on Yahoo for about a year that just got bought last week. They were pretty dear.

Not too much longer 'til the current project is finished and I can put up some new content.
