I'll be sussing out the wheel and what's leaking as soon as possible. For now it is just sitting in the back of Anja waiting patiently.

    • I havent' been able to get onto the Internet until now to upload some photos that I took on the way over to Melbourne on Saturday.

I started the journey around five o'clock, I probably didn't actually leave Adelaide until about six after filling up with petrol and what not. Anyway, I made stupid good progress and Anja ran beautifully the whole way across. I lost one clamp on the roof rack somewhere between Tailem Bend and Bordertown but that was fine.

I grabbed some photos just as I crossed the border into Victoria.

Rule number one of driving on highway, have your lights on no matter what time of day. Makes it easier for oncoming traffic to see you, especially if your car is green!

Anyway, the drive over was great. Yesterday however, I wanted to kill Anja. I drove out to meet some of the guys on here at Calder Park Raceway to watch the drags and on the way back I had to get some petroleum. Coming out of the petrol station I could tell something was wrong and it sounded like she was only running on two cylinders.

I pull off to the side of the road to suss out what the damage was and I see this massive puddle of petrol on the side of the road. I popped the engine cover off and could see that the fuel line was not attached. Originally I thought maybe the filter had cracked or something like that, but after closer inspection the hose and the inlet bung into the LHS carb had popped off.

Something I had never seen before, and something I still cannot explain as to why it happened. Thinking about it, pressure goes into the carb from the fuel, not the other way. Oh well, luckily I had my toolbox with me so it was as simple as unclamping the fuel line from the inlet bung and hammering the bung back into the carb, re-clamping the fuel line back onto it and driving off.

      Annoying to say the least.

      • Might have come loose from vibration, especially considering how far you drove in one stint. You said you hammered it back in so I'm assuming it's not a threaded bung? Maybe get a new set to be safe, they might have worn down over the years and aren't seating as tight as they used to.

Yeah, that was my only conclusion I could come too, driving so far and it just vibrated loose. It isn't threaded, thankfully, otherwise I would have been stuck for a bit longer. I'm thinking I might invest in new carbs and go a little wider with the diameter too.

But then again, want to drive this engine into the ground and then do a conversion I think...

          • Just fix these little issues as they pop up and before long you'll have a really reliable car. Build a new engine on the side if you want to, that way you can still drive the car as you do it.

            • Yeah, that's true. Problem is, I don't want to keep her aircooled anymore.

Itching to do an EJ20t conversion with Haltech ECU etc but just don't have the garage space.

                • There's just something about an EJ20t conversion that would take this car to a whole other level. So much money though.

Oh, the other front RS also leaked. I have a feeling it might be the valves, as they were both used from the RS' that were on the Subaru. Have to suss them out during the week as to where they are leaking from.

                  • Once again life has turned to shit. I have no idea what the fuck I am going to do, but such is life. Searching for rental properties is also a headache.

Anyway, due to the lack of motivation, the massive empty feeling I have inside me currently and the fact that it is 5am and I cannot sleep, I decided to play around in Photoshop.

I'm trying to figure out whether or not I should go the route of bagging Anja or just lowering her statically. I figured, I have the air setup just sitting in the garage at Mum's place, I could put it to use, but then again, I miss running stupid statically.

Statically, I reckon I could get her sitting quite nicely.

But then bagged, would be awesome.

                    bagged-low by sebastienpeek, on Flickr

I think bagging her would be much more practical, especially the suburbs that I am currently looking for rental properties. Speed bumps and cobblestone seem to be more common than a tree planted on the side of the road.

I also figure, if I am to bag her, I could potentially run wider wheels as the camber from airing out would tuck them at the rear. The front is another issue altogether, I'd probably get a new beam to be honest. Might talk to some of the Type 3 boys here in Melbourne as to what route I should go.

                    • saw a really mint type 3 just like yours cruising the yarra boulevard (near alphington, ivanhoe if you know those areas yet..)

was sitting almost identical to your photoshopped static setup, maybe even lower at the front...was an equally faded redish brown color with some sort of old looking steelies (jellybeans?). Looked so rad cruising and it had an rather loud rattling straight pipe as it hammered past! Most definitely approve of your progress and you will get yours to that level and beyond one day

Hmm, wonder who it was. Might have to question some of the other Type 3 boys here about it.

I reckon I'm going to bag her though. Fuck it.

It sucks when my motivation is at an all time low though, I get so fed up with life and just want to give up on projects, shit's fucked. Like getting rid of the Subaru, getting rid of Gretl, fucking dumb cunt that keeps falling for the same shit.

Anyway, spending the day working on Oxer's Belair this afternoon made me remember what I love. Working on cars with great mates. It doesn't matter how many times I turn to shit, getting my hands dirty I am just, in a whole other zone? I don't know if that even make sense, but yeah, when it comes to working on cars everything else just takes a back burner.

I'm going to bag Anja and then drive the engine into the ground. So, a list of things that I need to do are the follow.

                          Front end.
                          1. New front beam, not sure if I want to narrow it or not.
                          2. Upper, lower control arms and spindles.
                          3. Tie rod ends.
                          4. Brake pads.
                          5. Stainless steel front brake hoses.
                          6. Air shocks.

                          Rear end.
                          1. Rear disc brake kit from Airkewld.
                          2. Stainless steel rear brake hoses.
                          3. Air shocks or Airkewld IRS kit.

I'm going to use the SwitchSpeed setup I had in the Subaru. So would just need some new hoses and wire it all in.

When the engine fucks itself, I'm just going to build a new one, a 2332cc.

Now I just have to save my pennies.
