Updates ERMAHGERD. yea i know been forever lols. Finally got the car towed to work and spent some time working on it today. Found that its been running on 6 cylinders at best AND the timing is off by a good bit. No wonder it ran like a bag of assholes.
In she rolls off the tow truck....

This is the timing cover covered in oil. the seals have been pouring oil for some time. last time the job was done 100 years ago they used a napa timing belt. whatever works right?

This is the front before and after Alternator/PS pump removal. PO had told me they had the combo replaced and it was still leaking. The area between res and pump seem clean so i removed the air control valve and am now in search of a drain plug that will fit. I dont have access to a welder so i cant just crack the old plastic acv and weld the end shut.

Spending my entire day off tomorrow at shop from open to close. I want this thing pretty buttoned up by nightfall.

Glad you're getting some work done on it. When do you expect to have it running?

Today was an adventure LOL....what I originally thought was the oilpan was not the source of the oil leak. The cam and crank seals are notorious for leaking in these things when they are skipped over during the 90k service. My seals...are original. 217k, 22+ years old. Bone dry and wedged in there so tight i took a chunk of skin out of my finger trying to remove the bastards.

The oil pump housing had enough oil on it alone and the gasket material,so loose/oil soaked along with the large volume of oil we have seen on previous occasions to finally make the decision i dreaded all along...pull the oil pump housing off the block and see what is going down.

A few random shots of the cam pulleys and the oil dripping behind them/on them

heres a few of the Oil pump housing prior to removal.

Heres the oil pan being dropped and the housing removed

and a few of the inside of the block.

not a shred of metal to be found anywhere. pretty damn clean to be honest. that coupled with the good numbers from the comp test i had done before all this shit started... starts to get the lightbulb going....the pennies are moving into diff accounts lol....just saying i might give her the Gary mod. scare some folk and break some shit

So today was met with success and failure. I need to get this thing out of the fucking shop already. Boss said it was cool as long as it didn't interfere with regular customers, didn't tie us up from a bay, and I wasn't milking the clock. Stay off his time and use common sense? Sure I'm with it.

Anyway start the day off with remembering to get some real sealant for the water pump. Ran next door to NAPA and picked up some

Started up where I left off with this

                Replaced with this

                and loled at this

Finally got around to putting the Timing belt on. This was my first time EVER doing anything related to timing.

Much thanks to all my coworkers/friends that know more then i do when it comes to wrenching. Also helps that while incredibly difficult due to the sheer magnitude of the job, Its actually a pretty easy process on the 1UZ-FE. Ive learned a fuckton from this build. Also learned that next time this whole damn engine is getting yanked and being done on a blasted stand.

Well here is where the bad comes in....Seeing as I have been in a rush to knock this part of the project out due to time and space shrinking fast....I have misplaced my Crank position sensor. No idea if NAPA has one. Seeing it for various prices from sources so its not a matter of getting one at all...just how fast can it be in my hands ready to get popped in -____-. Also my coworker managed to accidentally snap some kind of sensor clip thingamabob on the driver side front of motor. pics of sensor clip thing and its relative location. Any idea wtf that thing is? How bad do i gotta beat him with a stick LOL?

Thats as far as i got today. I have gotten pretty much everything else bolted on and ready to go. im thinking if i cant find the crank sensor im just gonna go ahead and replace both cam sensors along with it just for piece of mind. the wires are a bit frayed on one of them anyway. not comfortable throwing electrical tape on it.

more madness later on -_____- my brain and body are FRIED. This is redonkulous.

Well really good and bad news. Got time to throw the plugs and wires on today. put the radiator back in and filled all fluids. she turned over after i bumped it like 11x to make sure there was oil in the system. she was running fine for like 2 min. i happen to look over and realize 2 things. one i think i may have had a total DERP moment cuz the upper hose was blocking the fucking fan. maybe i put the bitch on backwards and didnt realize it? i dunno. its not leaking a drop of oil so im happy as FUCK about that. ont he other hand shes dripping a good bit of coolant. hoping its just a shitty old hose and nothing serious LIKE THE DAMN WATERPUMP. i would set fire to this motherfucker if that was the case.anyway heres the few shots i managed today at work -____-

AND SHE FUCKING RUNS!!!! FFS! Dude i cant belive it. I about cried like a little bitch when we finally got the shit figured out. Yes it was something as fucking DERP as a backwards upper hose -________-. Shit was blocking the fan from spinning and stressing the fanbracket/water pump causing the slight leak. Man she runs like a raped date compared to when i first picked up the old leaky cunt. Also eyeballing some wheels a buddy brought in he has been waiting to put on his IS. Stern St1 18x8.5 front and 18x9.5 rear 32 offset all around. The back has a bit of poke but nothing i cant fix with a bit of camber when i get it low.

heres a video of it running and a side shot of the wheel. forgot to get a photo of the test fit from the side while on the ground. even with the super wheel gap they didnt look bad at all. reluctant to pull trigger until i can source some 95+ calipers, pads and rotors. this bitch needs brakes like NOW lol. shes heavy as fuck and kinda scary to drive. also the current 15s are smoother then a teen girls ass LOL. nooo
                        grip.

                          Gratz!

Now time for the trunk hahaha. If it's as bad as you say it is, the trunk deserves a build thread of it's own.

i had forgotten about the trunk. i spun the tires a bit (not too much dont wanna pop a freshly sealed engine by doing stupid shit before everything has had a week to cure!) fucking around behind the shop and coworker noticed water coming out of it.....we popped trunk and pulled the rubber plug in the spare tire well. almost yakked it was so nasty. im heading to carwash 1st thing in the morning
