  • The best compliment I can give you is that your car is inspirational. So well done in every single facet!

Oh. That daily isn't bad either. As a fellow wagon owner, I approve.

    • Thanks dude! Frankly, I'd rather drive the daily than the GTI.. Ha.

      • Wow, what a memorable season.. A quick recap reveals that at every single show I attended there was an issue of some sort. Just my luck! Ha. Didn't let any of these issues get me down. Part of the game I suppose!

•SoWo - trailer fender kicked into car, big oil' dent.

•Eurohangar - weird idle and loss of driveability. Ended up being the signal wire to the MAP sensor.

•Eurowerks - after a month of troubleshooting, finally found the issue the day after the show.. Long story short, I pinned out every wire at the ECU and at the sensor, all of which tested just fine. Only when the car was hot did it start getting fussy..

•Dubs in the Valley - road debris kicked up into bumper, fender and hood. Another trip to the body shop.

•MadFurther - MAP sensor wire decided to shit itself again. Wire was pinched on the fender rail. Derp.

•H2oi - Sticky thermostat and coolant overflow developed a leak in a weld. Cracked a CCW on the way home in my wagon along with smashing the oil pan about 40 miles east of Chicago.

Now this leaves me at where it's sitting now. Well, it's in my garage currently, leaking coolant from the lower radiator connection and the E-Brake decided to stretch the cables enough so it no longer works... In about a week I'm beginning a new chapter in my life, moving cross country to Washington. Just south of Tacoma to be exact. I was originally just going to leave the GTI in Minnesota but it makes more financial sense to have it transported to me out there instead of storing it for the winter.

Plans over the offseason? Nothing. It's going to be fantastic. I cannot wait to not touch a god damn thing.

            • Just read this thread from start to finish (its now 12:39am here in South Africa) and my good lawd am I blown away. Most epic attention to detail I've seen, the OCD in me loves this build. Really well done dude, I wish there were more cars of this standard in SA.

We probably do, we just don't have as many build threads around as those from other countries.

Also, epic MkIV. I miss mine

                  • Yikes.

Totally realized I havent updated this build in almost a year.

So I made the move to Washington state last October, had the car shipped out here about a month later. Didn't have a garage for the car at my new place so it sat outside, exposed to the wet and nasty WA winters for about 8 months... Needless to say its ****ing filthy. I also blew up the transmission in March so its pretty much been sitting since then.. I moved into a townhome in late July and as soon as I got a garage I tore it apart again. Just getting around to fixing the transmission now. It was shipped to Minnesota to a local shop to get a new gear set which has been cryo-treated and rebuilt with all new everything. I've contemplated putting in a dog gear set however I feel that may be a little overkill.

Upon ripping everything out of the car I noticed three bolts that attach the compressor plate to the center section of the turbo have all but disappeared.. I've had an ongoing issue since I came to WA with one of the bolts backing out pissing oil everywhere. Hot oil and a really hot turbo... could have been a disaster one time if I was driving it hard but luckily I wasn't. Cant seem to find any information online about these specific bolts in regards to torque spec or using any sort of locktite on them. Going to be bringing the turbo to a local rebuild shop and pick their brains a little about it.

                    Current state:

Sold the D240's. Going to put the D15's on it when shes up and running again.

Pretty certain I sheared third gear in the trans. No idea why the 5th gear retaining clip was thrown through the end cap.. ****er must have been moving pretty good for that to happen.

                    Told ya she was dirty...

Okay even I'll admit that this is a bit too much gold

                      • I just moved to Puyallup. Will definitely be out at the shows again when it's running! Only event I went to this year was the toy run at Pacific Raceways.
