Got the spring bug so I started tackling the to do list that was supposed to be done over the frigid, frigid winter!

Started to finish up the Sanden EDC install. Here's how I left it last fall.

Finished welding and dressing the bracket it to try and resemble a factory piece.

Pulled the tanks and painted them the same color as the car and properly secured them, No more bungy.

Also bought a pair of these...

So disassemble, clean, and grease my sanded then plumb and wire. Then install my mufflers. Then Wheel spacers or Wheels

Done: FBSS Air Ride, PI Dual Exhaust, LED Gauge Back Light, LED Interior Lamps, Custom Gauge Overlays, Infinity/Alpine Sound, 20% Tint, Sanden EDC, 18" Magnaflow muffs and 3" tips.

Future: 3.55:1 with Trac-Loc, More Lows (Commence to Cutting), Wheel spacers for better fitment, Possibly New Wheels.

            Before Video, Factory police duals.

Time to install the mufflers, only problem is it made it very apparent I need to replace the sad factory H-Pipe. The cat pipes are 2.25" the tailpipes are 2" and the H-pipe is 1.75" and crushed terribly at bend locations. I will probably try my hand at fabricating one from a mandrel bend kit.

Hangers used to be on the mufflers so I made up some templates from a coat hanger to relocate them to the tail pipes, easier future muffler swapping too!

Then had the local metal fab shop bend them up out of 3/8" stainless rod.

Another thing that became apparent is I need to spend some time under here with wire brushes and POR-15 like the front frame and suspension. Good thing at its normal altitude no one can see this perspective.

I’m also going to grab an aluminum drive shaft and 3.55:1 trac-loc rear axle from the yard soon. So that will be when I clean up the new axle housing and suspension parts.

            Video with Mufflers in…
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Next up was some 3.5 inch rolled lip tail pipes.

Whipped these bushings up to adapt the 2.5 inch tailpipe opening to my 2" exhaust

Ones side mocked up. Wasn’t happy with how they fit the bumper cutouts though, they weren’t concentric, so commenced to cutting bumpers!

That’s better, now they tuck into the bumper a little more too. When I repaint the rear bumper I'd like to graft in some exhaust opening from a newer car that has a shape to the opening.

Made a template for the other side…

Voila! Amplifies the good sound a little more too!

Video about two weeks after mufflers in and with new tips, I think it suits the car perfectly. Has a nice burble under load and almost no highway drone.

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys!

Almost finished the EDC install, permanent wiring and switching only remain. All I can say is wow its fast, topping up the tanks used to take about 3 minutes or more with just the AZ electric compressor and now with a little revving its about 15 seconds.

Already had the bracket fab'd, next was disassemble the Sanden compressor for grease conversion and paint.

All I can say is this thing was in pristine condition, lucky case of beer find! 80's Cherokee so it likely puked all its refrigerant early and never ran again, LOL.

Plugged the crossover hole from the crank case to the head that would normally allow oil to pass back and forth.

Thoroughly cleaned all oil from everything and greased with Lucas high temp/hi-performance grease.

Had everything blasted then applied semi gloss black.

                    Mounted...

Bent up the stainless leader line...

Fab'd a bracket to hold the leader off the throttle body.

Bent up the intake line so the K&N breather would be vertical...

Belt on ready for first tank fill.

I'm happy to report that I can now top up my air tanks in about 15 -20 seconds rather than 3-5 minutes, I love this thing. Hope it lasts, I should scavenge a few AC compressors though for spares.

Ive always wondered how come more people dont run EDC's I mean dont most semi trucks and dump trucks run those york brand EDC's to fill those enormous air bags they have? Ive contemplated trying to run one and your install is motivating me even more. I Hay8 how long it takes to fill up just a 5 gallon tank. its like 30 seconds sounds way better than 3 minutes. How do you stop the comp from running though? is the pulley on a clutch/switch system? educate me more on these EDC's

@SD202, you are correct, most semi-trucks use York compressors for AC and air brakes, even some European cars for AC comps (Volvo comes to mind), York's are more desirable in my opinion because they have a separate crank case with their own oil system. I was unable to fit a York in my car due to the immense proportions of the Ford Modular V8 engine, therefore I opted for a Sanden. Normally guys run an oiler in front of them and a separator after in order to keep them lubricated. I opted to convert mine to grease, I got the idea from the S10 forum, a guy on their ran his for several years, IIRC, with no issues.

The standard 12V clutch from the AC is used to cycle the compressor on and off with a pressure switch, supply 12V to the coil and it pulls a plate back against the sheave to engage the compressor.

Alot of older 60's and 70's trucks ran Yorks as well. Ive pulled a couple at the JY and sold them lol.

Car and the air systems looking slick!

Picked up a 28 spline trac-loc (limited slip) carrier. Then picked up a rear axle from a local wrecker with a 3.55 open diff. My current RAR is 2.73:1 so its pretty lazy, I want to do burnouts! The idea is to buy a rebuild kit for the trac-loc with carbon fibre clutches and a kit for the rear axle. I'm hoping to be able to use the ring and pinion from the junker axle. Here are some pictures of the ring and pinion wear pattern if you have some insight.

It looks pretty good to me, just need to check the lash. None of the teeth are worn to a knife edge. Hopefully I can reuse as it will save me 200 bucks plus S&H on a new set.

I had it blasted and ground off the heavy flash areas. Then applied two coats of POR-15.

Next up I will pull it apart, have the caliper brackets blasted and then paint them along with the companion flange. I also have to buy a new VSS driven gear (speedo gear) to keep the PCM and Speedo happy.
