  • i too just joined stanceworks to follow this build.
I am buying a 1966 volvo 122s amazon wagon and my first mod will be bags. I am doing the work myself along with a friend who does air ride suspension for a living. he told me to do research on other setups and this thread is exactly what i was looking for.

Thank you so much for posting everything with so much detail.

looking forward to doing my build thread.

btw, i'm looking for the air conditioning system for my car especially the dash vents so if anyone knows where to find these it would help me out a lot.

          It's just sooo subtle!

I drive a 1968 P220 Amazon Wagon in desperate need of some serious lowering.
I probably won't be able to afford airride for 2014.
So it'll probably just get a few coils cut off, for now...

Here it is, with a set of Lesjöfors 30mm "lowering" springs.
Otherwise bone stock, just as I bought it in June this year
Of course I've got a lot of subtle modifications planned.
As it'll be my daily driver from spring to autumn, I'll take it step by step...
Gorgeous wagon! Look so clean! I think a couple coils off should do the trick too

I searched the web quite a bit when I first looked into doing the bags, but there arent a lot of bagged amazons of course and almost no information about the ones that are bagged. I saw a couple pop up and on youtube, and people were asking about the setup, but the owner didnt want to share any details apparently. I know there are other ways to go about doing this, but this is what made sense to me. Hopefully something ive posted may help someone else get theirs done, or figure out an even better way to do it.

As far as the ac, there are a few companies that do the under dash units. They arent cheap. A friend of mine found a used kit from a karmann ghia that worked out well, but did need some fabrication for mounts and all that. Im going to be getting into that myself before the summer.

            • well i plan on sharing all my mods in great photographic and written detail so hopefully we can remedy this problem us volvo amazon owners have with lack of info.
i've found some under the dash kits and they definitely aren't cheap or terribly attractive.
i'm looking into retrofitting a system from another car. i've heard someone used an AC condensor from a BMW 325i.

i'll be junk yard hunting soon for parts. this is all part of the fun of having a classic car.

              • Started cutting and grinding today, only to notice that to lower the rear more, I will need to go back to the drawing board and come up with something different for the rear upper mounts. The front can go down about another inch, but i figured i'd do it all at the same time so I quit working. The rear can only go down about another 3/4" anyways, unless I want to cut the drive line tunnel, which I dont.

And then a gas leak showed up. Hopefully not a big deal, just got to sort it out. One of the bowls is overfilling with fuel and coming out of the weep hole. Last time this happened fuel was seeping into one of the floats through the seams causing it to sink. So I put new ones in there a few months back, so im sure its not the same issue, but the symptom is the same. I am seriously starting to **** carburetors. Ive spent more time keeping these working than almost anything else on the car.

                • Carbs are awesome though, I've had to mess with mine some and will be rebuilding the weber soon but I wouldn't change it out for anything

                        Agree!
                        I've bought a 1991 Volvo 240 donor car.
                        It's got a B230FX 136 hp(DIN) with EFI.

Hopefully it'll make the car super reliable

Nice! I dont think we had the fx here in the states (could be wrong about that). The B230's are tricky to get in there, but plenty of people have done it. I keep going back and forth on the motor swap idea. I may stick with the b18 or b20, but I definitely need the m41 if so. Its fun to drive as is, but not as comfortable as you would want from say a daily driver. Also, constantly fearing a break down or mechanical issue gets old, but hey thats what we signed up for haha
