Well after 2 WHOLE DAYS the roll cage is finished!

But lets start from where we left off...

So i left my house to head to the shop and my car got egged whocares

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Fitted the front a pillar tubes then dropped the cage down so i could weld the top of everything. Sat it back up where it needed to go and welded it for good.

Started on the lower door bars. Made them level to the opening and clear under the speaker.

Made the upper door bars and tacked them in place.

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Put in the first upright. Note the slight bend in the upper bar.

The slight bend in each bar gave me just enough room to clear the inner door. 1/4" clearance

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

This also gave me just enough room to keep the roll up window functional

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

    Speaker still usable..

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Everything fitted. Both sides perfectly symmetrical.

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Started fitting the diagonal. I used 1 1/2" .120 chromoly for it that i had left over from my rx7 build.

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Perfect notch after some trial and error.

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Welded everything up after I finished getting the harness bar perfectly symetrical to the chassis and brought the car home.

Playing with the idea of scooting the oem wing back 2"...thoughts?

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Also welded up my new Sweet MFG steering spline onto the oem shaft.

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Had to machine a delrin bushing to press into the spline piece to space the wheel out so it doesnt push on too far because PitstopUSA sent me the wrong on.

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Gonna use my wheel that came from my rx7 and Legend car in this as well..love this thing.

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Finished product..Super happy with the outcome.

I was even able to keep my oem mirror..Gonna spray the headliner black with upholstery dye.

Plated the rear cross bar to the chassis.

Next on the list is to fit all the interior panels, make a rear aluminum firewall, reupholster my dash, strip the rest of the sound deadening stuff, then prep and respray the whole inside. And get my new Sparcos to sit lower. Schwing

I haven't been checking out build threads in a while, but glad I came across this. What a PIECE of SHIT that was lol.

Glad it's coming along well with greatness.

I spent about 7 hours on it today. But I made a couple mistakes and wasted material early on, it's been awhile since I've done tube work so i was kinda rusty. Most of my time was spent fitting tubes and measuring everything multiple times to keep it perfect. If I did this more often it would have been much quicker lol. Maybe could have even gotten all the pieces made

Cool stuff happened today..Made a really good start on the roll cage.

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Load plates all made..4 are fully welded in.

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Main hoop. 1 finger gap near the pillar.

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Got up a majority of the sound deadening stuff. +1 dry ice.

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Fitted the rear braces in. within less than 1/8" side to side.

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Got the main halo in and tacked in place. This thing literally couldn't fit any closer, which is good because I'm tall so less chance of my head coming in contact with it.

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Good perspective of how close it fits.

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Front load plate made, just needs to be welded down once the cage is fully welded. I used a 3" holesaw through the floor so i can drop the cage through to weld the tops.

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Barely any tubing visible from the side.

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

The down bars line up perfectly with the rear window. Looks great from outside.

    Untitled by DriftBuild, on Flickr

Front of halo, hard to tell but very square to the chassis.

Gonna wrap up the a pillars, door bars, lower lateral bar, harness bar, and diagonal tommorow. Then i can start trimming my panels for a Full Interior :3 Lol streetcar
