Thanks! front end swap wasnt too bad, I had to have the top portion of the gsxr stem machined to match the virago stem (bearings alone wouldnt work) But I've been told an r6 front end is easier.Originally posted by Static_G View PostIve been wanting to build one of these for a while now. This thread is some inspiration for me to finally start. Will follow this closely. Nice progress so far.
How difficult was the gsxr front end swap?
Well I picked up a 2 up seat at a bike show yesterday..forgot to mention this thing is going to be convertible for when the gf wants to tag along....
here's a quick rendition of how the bike will look by changing out only 4 bolts...

Thanks, and by all means build up the maxim...any bike CAN look good depending on what you do to it.Originally posted by cdiddydo View Posthmmmm my dad has a maxim 750 he wants me to learn on, i like this very much....motivation
Well I've been wiring like crazy trying to make my suzuki controls work on my yamaha..finally got the bike to turn over using the start button last night..now i just need to do an oil change and go through the necessary legal processes to get this thing on the road!

What was all envolved with this front end swap? I'm honestly, thinking of picking one of these up very soon.. I would like to know what machining was needed on the stem and the wiring? Since, i'm a 1000% noob to bikes.
Thanx

Unfortunately i don't have any pictures of the machine work that was done..but basically the top half of the gsxr stem was turned down to match the diameter and thread pitch of the stock virago stem...and wiring is just splicing in all the gsxr controls like the start button, kill switch, headlight etc...the wiring can be avoided by using your stock controls insteadOriginally posted by 244Brick View PostWhat was all envolved with this front end swap? I want to build a bobber now. THANKS.
Bike looks awesome, it's astonishing how much you can change the attitude of the bike by just doing a few things.BB6 Prelude . . E36 ///M3 . . VA WRX Limited . . 1969 Nova

Correct, there is no kick start on these bikes.Originally posted by 244Brick View PostSo this is electric start and everything, not kick start?
Well I finished wiring everything and did a quick oil change...after that i got the bike started!
Drove it around at the shop for a while. I need a new starter solenoid as it shit the bed..but other than that I'm ready to put this thing on the road!
It drove great, and everything worked like it should. I was really surprised at how well it ran after sitting for a year.
here's a comparison picture of it just to keep it legit (thanks hoowybrow)

Will post a video once road worthy...
I also ordered a bigger front tire (dunlop d404 to match the rear)Last edited by EuroNut; 04-15-2013, 07:23 PM.

Thanks dude, if you look in the last picture you can kind of see the plate mount that i made..just on the right side of the rear wheel. I'll get several better photos of the bike after i get the new front tire on itOriginally posted by P3Z View Postlove your build man! good work.
I've always wondered, where are you planning to display your number plate?
Also, not sure if you're aware, but 'Heist' is building a bobber on the side. Awesome one to follow as well.
