    Updates

    -Took some measurements

    -Drilled some holes

    And then this happened

Have to do the same at the back now when I get the chance

I also did some work to the gas filler door, that I will re-use to close the RS4 Fender opening - after all, I dont fill fuel from there

So, started by removing the latch

And then I cut this whole piece off

    Leaving me with this

    I got a bit angle-grinder-happy-LoL

And then this will be welded, sanded and painted with the new fender. (in this close-up, my Greek friends, can notice the funny -wrong way the unleaded is written in greek - αμλουβδη instead of αμολυβδη - LoL) .

Finally, and most importantly, another order arrived, a big one, which among other small bits and pieces, had these

RS4 Rear Wheels / Fenders Inner Archees / Liners

I hope they were needed and that it couldnt happen without them, cause those were damn expensive, especially for a part that will never be visible, and be heavy too - LoL

    Cheers, more to come

but i have some questions, why do you buy lexan windows and drill out the doors to save weight just to keep the heavy ass electric window lifts ? and wouldn't it much more effective to mount a rear undertray diffuser instead of drilling out the bumper if you are looking for less drag....

have you considered a rear mounted radiator setup ?

    cheers
LoL. I guess that is the reason for our difficulties

    1. I left the electric window lifts, only in the front. It is just that when being tightened with my harnesses, I like to be able to open some windows easily if needed.
At the back, everything is removed.

    2. Might be, but I need a tunnel to design that in order to be effective. Otherwise I would be just adding weight with no effect.

    3. Yes, I have considered a rear mounted radiator setup, but not just yet.

    Cheers

    Mike

So, today, was a pretty nice day for this project. I set to work, to put everything together on the front end.

First of all some more things arrived, that I forgot to receive yesterday

Then I painted the harnesses floor mounting points , in black again

And installed back the air ducts of the rear end after cleaning them thoroughly

Love how everything is getting shiny

Now, onto the more important stuff

Removed the front end once again, first driver's side

    First wing

    Then headlight

So as to put everything in place properly

Front fender bracket, RS4 next to A4 one, very small differences

    Installed in place

    Then these pieces

    That go here

I got excited so installed the side repeater as well - LoL

    Driver's side done

    Passenger's side next

Here we have smaller brackets (those seemed identical actually)

    And then these as well

So finished those, and it was time to test the front bumper. As I thought, no major drama here

Driver's side went in first time

Tight fit though, but easily in

    Passenger's side needed some love

    And it received it

    Done

At last, RS4 Front end, almost complete

For the time being, the "foglight" grilles, cant be fitted, due to the IC pipes standing out and getting in the way. I shall what I can do with this, but not my main concern.

Front the front end assembly, I have also not installed the lower trim, below the grille, and I also need to install my quick release fasteners.

The crash bar behind the grille will be modified in the future, in another project i have in mind with Tom.

What is more, I need to decide how will the exhaust exit the car.

    Could be here . . .

    Or most likely somewhere here

Or who knows where else . . .

    We shall see.

    Cheers

So, I managed to make some progress, and have some updates to show

First I wanted to do some work on the exhaust underside of the car

Since the exhaust is removed, I can remove some weight, like exhaust hanger, heat protection etc etc

    Before

    And after

    Pretty dirty

    So I cleaned it

    As well as these

So put the bumper back on

and checked for clearance down here, and everything was perfect

This here though, has to go, I just want the car on a lift to do it

Then, I went shopping, once again at the stealership today, to receive an order, and make a new one.

    Seems huge . . .

Here is what the order that came today had inside

Some new tools that will help me

For the air compressor, it works like a charm

Best part of today's order though, was this

    Again from Zender

    Along with this of course

    So lost no time

    From this

    To this

As I told you, I had enough of sellers refusing to send these parts due to their size (wtf, bumpers are bigger), so I bought this brand new. What can I say. You gotta do what you gotta do sometimes.

Then, i had no more time, so I just managed to add these on

    Before

    Removed

Cleaned of course, since car wont be seeing rain now

    Installed

    Same for passenger side

Yeah, that RS4 badge just makes you smile. Pretty weird they put it there.

    Gonna be wide

I also gave some love to the lug nuts

And put it back to sleep.

I miss driving it so much

    Cheers guys

So, I lost no time, and took the cage out for a ride. Not with the Audi however.

    And these, as well

My other option for transportation was this, out of a Wrangler chassis

But maybe next time - LoL

Here it is in the shop

I also left these, for which I have some surprises - hehe

Now, I did some work on the front bumper, preparing it for the next week.
If all goes well, given the new things from stealership arrive in time, I will start the efforts of mounting everything in the front end.

    Here is what I did

The bumper I sourced, came with these two parts fitted - the ones in black, partially removed.

I was ready to order those again, but last minute, I luckily thought I already had them, so cancelled their order. What is more, I dont need them, so I would have two pairs for nothing. Here they are removed

Then, it was time to throw the grille onto the bumper for the first time to see how it will look

Can you spot which part will be cut off ?

    Easy I guess

    Front view

    Rear view

    Bye bye

Again as I said in the past, a heatgun and a paper-knife, works wonders in plastic, and gives you the ability to cut perfectly, and have no trimming work to do afterwards

I then installed the fog light grilles so as to see if I could remove some more weight off the bumper

Seems like this part is not needed for me

    Before

    and after

    this goes away

Same thing from the other side

So these can go to the bin -well okay to my storage room, cause I dont like to throw away things

So bumper came out cleaner and lighter

And threw it next to the car, just to see how it would look . . .

Cant wait to find time for more work

    Cheers everyone

So I have another surprise that showed up today.

After a long time, more than two months I think, the cage has finally been made, and sent to me

Needless to say I was over the moon when they called me it had arrived.

Sadly, it wouldnt fit inside the Golf, so I went there with a nice Grand Cherokee of a good friend, that's what friends are for

Tried really hard to not rip the box apart and take some pics of it first

This boxed later turned out to have the material/insulation I opted for it to have. But I will not use it at least for now. We shall see later.

Lost no time and put everything together to see how it would look . . .

    Some random shots

Raw aluminium just like I picked it, cause I have other plans

Then i turned everything to pieces again

    And took some notes . . .

So as to go to the trim shop that did my dashboard . . .

But then some more parts arrived there . . .

    Hm . . . who knows why . . .

    More to come

It is to reduce drag caused by the air getting trapped in front of the bumper.

I believe it's to help the air under the car flow better.

I found some time to play with the rear bumper and make it look like I wanted it to look, and make its weight, the weight I need it to have for my needs.

    So, let's see

Removed all the OEM Parking wiring and sensors, these are also for sale if someone wants them

    From this

    To this

    50:50 shot

Time to remove the real weight of the rear bumper

This big chunk, that weighs almost 5lbs

Then the game got more interesting . . .

    Made a template

    Measure twice, cut once

My hand was not shaking one bit - drilling was excellent even though I had the room for error due to the forthcoming paint session

Then, I took some of these

Now we are getting somewhere . . .

    Ready

Lets throw it on the car to see how it looks for a quick snap

This is when I would smoke a cigarette if I was a smoker

Cheers for now. I have some more updates coming.

    Stay tuned

Well, I have some updates for you

First of all, I made some orders today.

    1. Ordered the remaining RS4 sideskirt for the right side from the stealership cause I got bored of searching over the net, and sellers bored to ship it over to me. Whatevah.

    2. I ordered all the bumper-fender-sideskirt supports, all new from stealership

Now, what i have left for the end, are the rear inner arches, and I will order those new, if and only if, I make sure that it cant be done without them. I guess that is the case. But I need to be sure. Then I will order those as well asap.

So waiting for those to come, and when they do, I will get to installing almost everything that can be installed by me. Which is pretty much everything but the rear fenders.

A lot of work ahead of me, and I love it

What is more, I managed to do some work on the RS4 grill.

    Some sneak pics.

    Stay tuned for more

    Cheers

    Mike
