  • 1987 Volvo 245 - The Commie Wagon

New to this forum but I have been modifying cars for over 15 years now so I figured I would start a build thread here for my current Volvo.

This wagon started out as a beat up and neglected NA piece of shit. I've spent the last few years working on it slowly since it is also my daily and so far I'm pretty happy with it.

Here's a list of what's been done to it so far, all work done by me.

    suspension:
    NEW ZF Power steering rack
    RSI Coilovers, front and rear
    Shortened front strut tubes
    Billstein HD shocks all around
    325# springs up front
    250# springs in the rear
    new ball joints
    new tie rod ends
25mm f/r ipd sways, new endlinks on the front.
    newer brake pads/rotors
    new front wheel bearings
    IPD adjustable panhard/torque bars
All new bushings - replacement OEM rubber

    engine
    1992 B230FT block
    Diesel Engine Mounts
    Oil catch can
    IPD HD Radiator
    IPD Cam/Gear
    Rebuilt 15g, water/oil cooled
    NPR Intercooler
    Bougicord Wires
    MSD ignition
    Hallman MBC
    Upgraded IPD in-tank fuel pump
3" turbo back, RSI downpipe, magnaflow muffler,
    Electric fan conversion
    upgraded 100a Bosch alternator

    transmission
    Getrag 265 from an e28
    6puck clutch
    Red Clutchnet pp
    1 piece custom driveline

    interior
Seats switched from vinyl to fabric
VDO boost and oil pressure gauges
    White led's in everything
    LC-1 Wide Band AFR

    exterior
Body trim switched to black turbo trim
    Rear red/clear tails
17x7.5" IPD Pegasus Replicas, RWD offset
    225x45 BFG Super Sports
OEM tubular tow hitch - hot pink

    How the car currently stands

    Super custom stock Brohitch™

Custom cup holder and gauge setup

    Led dash lighting

The reason I call it a Commie Wagon

And a picture of the motor I built for it, before it went in a couple of years ago

This weekend I'm pulling the motor to swap out to do:
new clutch disc, fullface/carbon kevlar deal
redo the mount for the Getrag tranny
tuck all the wires in the bay
    repaint the bay
install a different and upgraded ignition system

    and in the future:
    coilovers and larger turbo

I've decided that all the nice Volvo's are here in Washington, with the exception of Volvosome's.

(Saw you at Stancewars mate, couldn't take my eyes off your car).

cleaning, redoing a few seals/gaskets and cleaning up the wiring

Worn out, time for carbon/kevlar disc

In the process of tucking all the wiring so i figured i would take a shot through my garage window.

got the engine pulled apart as much as i needed, pulled the oil pan so i could change the o-ring in the oil pump and replace the gasket

new gasket on the front timing cover, adjustable cam gear attached to a big cam also there

and almost ready to put back into the car, just need an oil pan gasket and my flywheel back from the machine shop

me and a friend build a 240 with a B230FT a while back. I love volvo engines. They're the simplest little tanks ever. Sweet build by the way!
