  • be patient, man, don't sell the car! Some builds are done in weeks, others take decades. It doesn't have to be built overnight. Work hard, save your money, and eventually you will drive this thing. I've been following this thread for a while and also read through it on R3V, You've done a ton of quality work. It would be a shame to see it leave your hands incomplete.

A story for motivation... my father dragged a 1934 Dodge pickup out of a farmers field piece by piece when he was 13 years old (now 60). He has been gathering the right parts his whole life, and chipping away at the restoration bolt by bolt. Lack of funds and time have stalled the project numerous times, sometimes for a decade at a time, but he always tucked it away for another day. Here we are 47 years later and it is about 90% complete. We plan to finish this thing in the next year or two so he can enjoy it! In the long run, the more time that passes, almost makes it all that much more enjoyable when its complete!

Keep the car bro... and best of luck with your shop endeavor.

      • I might be a bit late to the party.. car is awesome, read through the thread and top work all way from start to finish don't give up on it now. This is one you want to see through to the end even if it takes a long time.

That furniture.. that is something else. If I won the lottery you'd be the first guy I was in contact with asking you to furnish my new pad. That is something else and I love the style, the finish, the design. Not to mention the originality. That is a seriously incredible gift to have, I'm sure it's going to bring you huge success.

        • I almost cried. Don't do that again. I've been following you for the last 6 months and I finally created an account once things settled in for me and I'd **** to lose the reason I started an account.

I don't want to sell it, but the idea crossed my mind a few times. I think in the long run I would regret selling it 100x more than just waiting it out and finishing it later when I had the means.

Just wanted to pop in and say thank you to the last few guys who took the time to comment on my thread, reading stuff like that makes my day and makes me miss working on this thing so bad.

I was having a weird night a few nights ago and typed up a full "for sale" ad for the Roundie Revival. I basically decided that it was time to let it go and that I wasn't in the place to have a project of this stature anymore. Now that I am self employed and depend on my shop as my livelihood, I barely have time for any personal projects at all anymore. While it has its total advantages, it's just different, and my priorities have shifted.

I spent a few hours typing up the ad, outlining all the work I had done to it, going through all the pictures and summing up all my expenses thus far. Finally it came time to hit the "submit new thread" button and I just couldn't get myself to click it. Reflecting on the entire build was a trip down memory lane at this point, and I started to feel uneasy at the thought of giving it up. This car taught me many skills and it's the reason why I am trying to make a living for myself doing what I love to do.

Even though the extra money and valuable shop space would be nice to have back at this point, I can't fathom passing this project on to someone else, so I decided that I will be finishing this project following my original plans, even though it will take a lot longer than I anticipated. I won't be able to invest in the 2002 anytime soon as I'm trying to build up my shop with new tools and equipment, but I'm hoping that it will eventually all pay off and I'll finally be able to afford to finish this project to my standards.

In the mean time, the '02 will be patiently sitting in the corner of my shop while I work my ass off to make shit happen.

Thank you to everyone who has followed this build and taken the time to offer positive input and feedback, you guys are the best! I can't wait to start posting progress on this project again!
Really cool to see that you decided to keep it. It'll be nice to build up your shop in the meantime because by the time you go back to working on the car you'll have much more resources and time won't be as much of an issue. Nothing more efficient than a workspace stocked with everything and organized right. I used to spend more time looking for the ratchet I just had in my hand than I did actually working on anything. PMed about the roof rack idea too.

Exactly! That's what I keep telling myself. PM'd you back about the roof racks dude.

Speaking of my shop, if any of you are interested in seeing how things are going aside from the neglected BMW project, I have a "build thread" of sorts which documents pretty much everything I've done there and the story of how it all unfolded. From the day I moved in to my recent projects and tool purchases, it's all in there. You can either click here or I added a link in my sig: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=272772

                        • As long as my work don't find out I spent more than half of my work day looking through this forum, I think I'm good... This, right here, is automotive art, those roofracks are awesome! And the furniture! At the start you had barely done welding, and now, a pro?! Damn. Make me a roof rack for my mk2 Rocco!
I am a party pooper. I poop at parties.

With the kids my 325ix will need your roof rack!
Sometimes i wonder if building it from scratch would be easier than stripping the rust away!

                            • Wow.

I just finished reading the thread, and could see the time gaps in updates for the last 7 or so pages. I was really hoping you hadnt sold it, but thats a bit selfish. Having read the thread over such a short period of time you can see how much you have matured and grown around this car. Like you said it has developed the skills you now use to make a living, and kudos to you! But also kudos to this project as a whole, the car, the ideas, the plan.

I dont know you and i wont ever meet you in person, but the guy i know "you" as is one determined and talented mother fucker. So creative and talented due to ability and what you have taught yourself (and from others like your dad - its a conscious decision to accept peoples teachings). You sound like a good man, with a good girl, a great outlook on life and endless opportunities. Thats the type of guy i'd buy a beer for.

Goodluck with your work, you're a talented dude!

Oh and thank fuck you decided to keep the 2002
timelines for these projects arent everything. I've had my car for 15 years and its slowly coming together. Just keep remembering the effort you put in (which in your case is mammoth) will make you smile so much more when you're cruising the Beemer home from a show on a beautiful spring sunday afternoon. That stuff is what we'll remember at the end of our days
