CubbyChowder finally got a BMW 2002 - it's project time
unless you're going to be popping the hood every other day like all the honda kids i wouldnt wory about it!
haha that honestly makes me feel a little bit better about it . I guess I just had high expectations for quality. At least it won't be visible. Thanks for that haha
Just finish it... and since there is a spot on the bay which no one will ever notice you can just send it to me afterwards since that looks terrible (even though it doesn't lol).

damn, spent all morning reading through that thread. Such a quality build. How's your '02 coming dude? You kinda went MIA on us haha
Sadly I had to sell it to some friends who own a BMW shop in Sacramento. I made a big life choice and needed the money. I am going to a traditional wooden boat building school in Washington (state) starting in September. I am really excited about it!
My car is in good hands and will be finished by professionals. Its to bad I couldnt finish it, but I learned soooo much from it that I can use on my next 2002!
Thats interesting about the engine bay paint. I thought I remembered someone telling me that POR15 products were self leveling for a smooth finish since most applications are done with a brush. Doesn't seem like to big of a deal though, its only an engine bay. How much did it take to cover the bay, I was looking at using either POR15 to cover my e30 engine bay before I drop my M50 in or just going the same route as one of the guys on r3v and using bed liner paint.

dude no way! you put so much hard work into that '02! But whatever, as long as you're taking new exciting opportunities in your life it doesn't sound like a waste at all. Glad you're excited about your new path, sounds like an interesting one! keep in touch though, you really influenced me in ways throughout my build.

I was originally going to use a bed liner paint but was advised against it, but in hindsight I don't really see why it would be a bad idea. I think what it really came down to was my preparation. I took care of all the rust, but I left a lot of areas uneven with paint removal. That and the paint was pretty thin, so it was hard to keep it from running, although it did smooth itself out pretty well. If you did a great job prepping the area and took your time with a nice solid brush, I think it would turn out pretty well. I prepped it pretty quickly, but made sure all the rust was taken care of (which was my main priority), and brushed it on with a pretty old brush so it turned out not as nice as I hoped it would be. I say go for it, I'm sure you could make it look good if you really put some time into it.

Read through this start to finish, and i am truly peeved that we dont get 2002's anywhere in NZ! Amazing work though, and i cant wait to see the rest of the car completed
Thanks man, I can't wait either. I have a few different colors in mind but not set on anything yet. I will make that decision when the time comes. Either a dark crimson red, dark charcoal grey, or dark brownish. I've also seen a few dark brownish/greenish/goldish colors that I think would look pretty sweet. I really like the brown that I've seen on a few MK6's, like this one:
