so tomorrow she will up high again. im suoer pissed off. i just got around to digging out my lowering blocks, and i got the head ready to go off for a valve job and a skim. now it'll be put on wait as i had to spend money on getting the car legal. although i do now have a shiny new tail light and she is very clean.... minus the large amounts of rust converter i slapped on every spec of rust. i decided ill just respray when i get the sticker taken off. engine bay is super tidy aswell. ill snap a pic of that tomorrow.

the reason i got picked up

    last pics of her low

    the new tail light....soooooooo shiny

and the head all cleaned up

and a phone pic taken at my girlfriends house.

and lastly i got so mad that i now have 3 at home with canary's i smashed the shit outa my e21 windscreen after it cracked trying to get it out.

i know its been ages since the last update. spent the past 2 months getting the yellow sticky off. had to do the head gasket, front main seal, weld up a bunch of stuff and just fuck around a heap. when removing the head we nicked the chain guide and it snapped which delayed me for a night. in total we spent 2 nights, 7pm-4am. its all good now. sits real high and is runnig stock everything. ill post some pics tomorrow. today i also picked up a bunch of 7m parts. a guy had a heap of stuff for sale. roughly around 600 he wanted for everything. then he got sick of it not selling it said 100 for everything. got a balanced crank and heaps of accesories, including 2 auto ECU's which i will sell. 50 each and shipping if anyone wants em. got 2 looms, a front sump (my other is mid) and heaps of other crap. he had a b&m supercooler with therstatic valve and a gt40 turbo but he didnt include them. as i drove off he ran after my car witha box. he gave it to me, and inside were 2 polished cam covers. the box was new from toyota. got home late so excuse the shitty phone pics.

also decided it was time for a new welder. decided to get something with tig function and gas mig. came with regs. its a 200amp. spent roughly 1k on it and i dont regret it. craps all over my crappy old mig and my stick

anyway have uni exams in 2 weeks so not much will happen, and i need to find a new job as my boss is sellig his business in a month, and the new guy wants to come in and change everything around. after about 4 weeks im on holidays for 6 weeks and i can go crazy

im confused, did you end up getting the defect notice off it before pulling apart the current engine? is this getting engineered (certification) or are you just throwing the motor in on the sly? are you just going to run the stock gearbox and an adaptor plate (or adaptor bellhousing), or try to find an R154 or W58 to throw behind it?

My bad. i should've ordered the pics better. i took apart the engine to do the head gasket and front main seal, and then had the defect removed. Im gonna try to get it engineered. i have filled out the forms and sent them in, but i have been told there is currently a minimum of 6 weeks processing time.

Good conversion, the 7MGTE is a really underrated engine.

My best mate put one in his Bundy. The look on people's faces when we smash their [insert performance car here] is priceless.

Just a small update. Been working a bit on the engine. Took out all the valves and got out some valve lapping stuff. All the spring rates seem fine and although the valves were covered in absolute crap, I think they should be ok to re-use. The head is gonna get welded in some spots and then skimmed, and cleaned. It's currently got heaps of carbon build up on it but it comes of pretty easy so im not too worried. Got a few quotes from different engine shops on doing the crank and the head. Got quoted roughy 400(aud) to regrind the crank, resize 2 rods and provide a new set of bearings. I'm gonna use the origional crank, as the spare is a 6m and has 4 less counterweights. As for the head I was quoted roughly 250 for it to be welded where needed, tested and then skimmed and cleaned. I've been tig'ing some ally lately so i was considering using some of the rods i have to repair the head my self, as i have access to a mill to recut the water passages, but i need to do more rersearch on wether there is anything special about welding a head, aside from making sure it doesnt warp. I have an exam on tuesday and then another 3 within the week so dont expect much to get done. PICS

exhaust side, gave it a quick rub with a wire brush

intake side, also gave a once over with wire

after giving a quick valve lap. it will probably still need more. only got time to do one cylinder

                    ex side

                    a few other shots.

and i pulled the rest of the engine from my e21. gotta get the ball rolling on it again

                    till next time.

So a small update. Head is going in tomorrow to get surfaced and ultrasonic cleaned. I got around to doing the rest of the valves. and i found a bit of a problem. A broken piston to be exact. I have a few spare ones but im considering using the cheapo oversized ones that came with the ebay rebuild kit i bought. I initially just bought it for the gaskets and water pump, but i might use a bit more of it now. im not really fussed if the cheap pistons dont last, as they cost almost nothing and i have spare oem's and the old 22r engine still goes strong. Just trying to toss up wether to hone the cylinders and use stock pistons, or to bore out and use the el cheapos.

so im pretty sure this thread is dead but ill keep at it anyway. i didnt get around to taking in the head to the machine shop as my exams were in a few days and then one was postponed another week due to "dangerous weather". in this time my hilux rasiator finally gave out. its been great for the past 10 years but its growing old. so i went out and bought a 7M radiator since ill need one anyway and went about making it fit to the 22r. dont worry the hoses are temporary until the 7m goes in. im yet to test it though, as its 1.23am right now and i left the stereo on all day with the sub going and my battery died. majority of my time ws spent trying to figure out what to do about the hoses as theyre on different sides. as for the mounts i just welded in 2 little brackets on the bottom and ran a bolt at the top.

                        New vs old

cut away some stuff and test fit it

made some room for the 7M

bottom mounts. tacked the top andthen ran a seam along the bottom and hit it with some etch primer

cut up the old pipes and adapted some PVC tube. only cost 20 bucks for everything

everything back on, except for the air con radiator as i need to extend the lines. im not gonna bother. ill just run without it for now. its winter anyway.

                        end product

hopefully i will get the swap done in the next 4 weeks as im on uni holidays

So thankfully my PVC pipes have held up and all is well. Also got around to re-wiring my stereo as the previous job was dodgy because i couldnt be stuffed getting out my soldering iron. It's just a Semi cheapo JVC deck with two 5" soundstream speakers and a pioneer two channel 760w amp bridged for the soundstream 12" sub. Sound ok but nothing special. I am having one major problem. It's winter and the car barely gets hot with the new Rad (see below pic). i have put in an 88 degree (centigrade) thermostat but my heater just doesn't get as toasty as it used to. excuse the phone pics.

after driving one night for about 40mins then thrashing for 15mins (and yes the guage does work)

i love customizable colours cos it matches my interior lights

seroius update coming in the next week

sucks the motor turned out to have so many issues. you having the block bored out a bit? with a piston like that I would definitely look into it. And for the radiator, block half of it off in the front with cardboard. Its cooling capacity is greater than your engine needs so it can't get up to temp.

I also figured, what the hell; im gonna want some form of decent handling, so i have opened up a new .dwg in autocad and started on a watts linkage for the rear. oh how i love holidays
