thanks man. the inspection pit is more of a deep hole but it works and yes it has reinforced walls for safe measures.

there was another 7mge for sale today. was 50 bucks and it works, has the loom and the ecu. got it fo any spares i may need. i need to stop buying engines. my sheds are so full of crap.

the gearbox has held up well so far. no crunches or odd noises. engine will hopefully go in next weekend but uni has been hammering me. sorry ofr shitty pics. was night time and only had my phone

Have decided that since i now have a perfectly working 7MGE i will drop it in first and build an absurdly overpowered 7Mgte for the hilux later on. Had a spare head gasket and new head bolts lying around. did the head gasket on NA. this weekend is party filled but should still be able to get the swap done. also got a 3.73 diff from a supra which ill find some time to put into the lux. then i can wind down the torsion ars up front and put my blocks in the back.

can hopefully start on the swap tomorrow night. should still be semi quick. the old 22r says it has 100hp but its probably more like 80 by now. i will be ecstatic to have roughly 150-200. many tires will be burned

well got nothing done during Easter break. had a bunch on. but yesterday the faithful 22r randomly got really hot and cracked the head. I was really sad. that engine had taken me everywhere and I had really hoped it would be repurposed later on. oh well. what better time to swap engines. go a new clutch. turned out to be identical to my last one as it was a HD one. with a larger friction disc.

cracked head and all, she still got me home

        will finish up this weekend

so the engine is now sitting in the bay all by itself. its bolted to the tranny. wiring is pretty much done aside from the fuel pump, as I haven't decided where I want to put it yet. also need to clean up the wiring job. a couple of connectors were cut off so I had to rewire it with old 7mgte plugs I had spare, which unfortunately had different wire colours. also had to make a circuit opening relay, as everywhere I tried wanted silly amounts of money for one; ended up getting 2 normal relays from jaycar for 10 bucks and making one out of the two. its not hard at all for anyone considering doing this, it can just look a bit messy.

          made some room

          bonnet fits over nicely

hopefully have a video of it driving soon. need to weld a zorst now

Awesome job! So it'll be non turbo then turbo right? Cause the timing belt cover in the most recent pic says GTE. Either way it'll be awesome. My swaps almost done too, I know what it's like riding around with 80HP.

correct. currently NA, will go turbo later. didn't have a GE timing cover so I used my GTE one. I've been following your thread. Was it the best feeling in the world to have the car move under its own power? I cant wait to have a working car again.

Haha that's what I thought. Truth is I didn't even leave my street and it felt so great! Thanks for checking the thread out by the way. I should be reporting a good driving video within the week.

have a video of it running. crane is on it as I hadn't tightened the mounts yet. the timing is out, and the fuel pump is f****d, but it runs. mum telling me off for being noisy at the end. headers only. helps to watch in HQ

not much of an update. had trouble with the engine sitting too far back as I had cut and shortened the trans mount when I still had the 22r in it. there I was puzzled why it wouldn't clear the steering rod. also had another problem which was that the oil pan was still hitting the steering rod when I turned. I think its because this conversion is usually done in the 4x4 so there is a bit more clearance, making it more of a "drop in" conversion. I simply welded up some mounts to make it sit about 15mm higher. For some reason my driveshaft seems to be slightly short. u dunno if its cos my W57 is out of a Celica but it only contacts the output shaft about 20mm. ill extend it another time. just need to weld up an exhaust but I have been busy with uni and not a having my own car (especially a ute at that) has really slowed me down. ill try get a video of it driving by the end of the week.

I ran into both of the same issues, too far back and oil pan clearance. Swapping trucks ain't the easiest, but it'll be good to see it running soon. It'll pay off.

got 5M motor mounts. driveshaft fits perfect now, BUT oil pan not clearing steering. so after much swearing and wondering why my oil pan wont clear the steering, I did some measuring and inspection. both my pitman arms are bent along with the steering rod that goes between them. currently contemplating replacing arms with different model hilux ones to drop the steering a little lower, or replacing with standard arms and cutting, bending and rewelding the damaged rod. I while back I went to a 4x4 trail with a friend and his jeep. having no 4WD system or beefy tyres I had to keep my speed up. at times I was probably airborne. I think this is probably when stuff got bent. I just want my car back already
