  • that was on the 1.9L head along with literally the largest cam that will fit in the head. all of that is being swapped over the the 2.4L head that is going on the car.

the guy i am getting my rocker arm studs is the guy who used to supply this stuff but he is no longer in business. IIRC they are actually GM/Pontiac rockers

          • It'll get done, I have faith in you! You're definitely more motivated with this than the Corrado that's for sure.

            • tell me about it, i spent a good portion of my day at the office looking at the wiring diagrams OGTS sent me which was fun but the day just kept getting better

              i love awesome surprises!

get home today to a small package at the front door. in it i find 10 rocker arm studs, not 8 like i paid for, 10 awesome!

then i got around to opening the package i got from OGTS on wednesday and in it i find this awesome beefy transmission mount. i thought i ordered a stock replacement but they sent me this monster instead. i am over the moon right now because the stock unit is a flimsy POS and i was worried the new one was going to fall apart like the old one. i don't think i have to worry about that now!

              what an awesome day!

              • dropped off parts up at Ravenworks this morning and checked out the progress they have made. Basically all the head work is done and now all i can say is it looks awesome!

they now have everything to assemble the head which is cool but we are still waiting on a bunch of stuff.

oh and here is a pic of the broken piston, when the piece is place on the piston you could hardly tell anything was wrong lol

                yay progress!

                • Nice project and very nice GT, but you are throwing your money down the drain with that big pile of CIH. You should have sold it with the Getrag 240 and buy C20XE and Getrag 240 from a Rekord 1.8OHC and run 45DCOE.

2.4 already has some of things improved in comparison to other CIH engines , but I still dislike it very much. Personally most hateful thing about it is the weight of the engine and bad weight distribution of the car.

I don't know anything about the GT suspension/drivetrain but we use Ascona/Manta B rear big axle, although it is wider. Kadett C station wagon 1.6 CIH has a big diff but not that wide axle. I suppose you also have that kind of axle in the GT OEM.

being in America it would have cost a ton to import that motor here and since i already had this one and the large pile of custom parts i'm not really wasting my money. it would cost a hell of a lot more to get anything else to where this motor is since i would have to add the cost of cams, intake manifolds, valves, valve springs, lightweight flywheel, upgraded clutch and a list of other items.

as for the weight, the engine, while heavy, sits entirely behind the front axle line and when the car was weighed a few years ago it came out at 52/48 distribution.

And yes i have the big axel in the back, that was a post 71 update and mine has a LSD in the pumpkin.

sure i could put a different motor in but given the way the engine bay is laid out i have to run a motor with both the intake and exhaust coming out of the passenger side of the motor. there are not a whole lot of options in that layout (i have thought about doing an VW ABA) but then i would have had to figure out some way to mate a RWD transmission to it.

At the end of the day i really just want to drive the car, not a car that will never get done...

                    • Well that's really good. We haven't had many GT's around, but the engine is popular swap for Ascona or Kadett C where it sits really up front. Most important is you are happy with the car, none of other stuff matters! LSD is a good thing to have around.

                              • got quite bit done this weekend, i also feel very lucky to be alive but i'll get to that later.

first i get to say something i have wanted to say for quite a while, the engine bay is now painted!!!!! I had to paint in it stages since there is so little room to stand in there so it took a while but i got it done. It isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination but it is gonna be fine for right now and it looks a whole lot better than it did before.

now for the other bit of news. i pulled the front suspension out for a number of reasons. first because it was going to make it easier to paint the bay and second because i am going to do the conversion to coil overs next. however i found that basically all of the bolts holding the front suspension together were loose or missing nuts... my lower control arms were close to falling off so yeah i think i am going to go through the rear suspension as well when i pull the car out of the corner to make sure everything is good back there but damn it makes me feel lucky the something didn't happen.

i got the leaf spring and shocks out so that when my coils come i can start woking out what needs to be cut and what i need to do to the upper a-arms to make everything fit.

it is so nice that everything come out together

i was kind of worried about pulling the leaf spring out since i have heard that it tends to be a bit violent so i put a ratchet strap over the whole thing to keep things together while i pulled the bolts out but it didn't spring out which was nice

here is a nice shot of the driver side lower control arm there was a missing nut on one bolt that holds it to the control arm to the sub frame and the other nut was loose. both were loose on the other side...

and then there was no more shocks and spring

thats it for right now damn it feels good to get stuff done
