thanks. the front lip is coming along. whats funny is that i really dont like the way it looks in that picture, but in real life, its actually pretty proportionate. i will try to grab some better pics of it tonight. once i get the shape to where i am happy with it, i will then start on the carbon fiber cloth laying. not the most fun thing, but pretty much the only way i can think of to build this lip where it will last at least a season at that height.sigpic

decided on some woven kevlar fabric for the front lip. i have worked with carbon fiber before quite a few times, and wanted to try something new. My main concern here is that the lip lasts more then a week, so a nice strong material like kevlar should hopefully hold up well.
its going to be painted satin black likely to match the brake cooling ducts, and the near future rear diffuser.
just placed an order for 6 yards of the material. should be way more then enough to do this lip/ diffuser. now to figure out how it ties into the aluminum skid plate for a seamless installsigpic

alright, so the pics of the lip sucked, so i finished the shaping till the template was smooth. since the pink wasnt doing it for me, i put a quick coat of matte black on the template so i could get a better sense of the lip...
right now its just being held on by 3 pieces of blue tape, so the sagging will not be there once i make the lip. oh and the back of the lip will be dead even with the fascia. that extra 3/4" in this next pic just needs to be removed.
im happy with it. time to lay some kevlar. once the stuff comes in of coursesigpic

thank you. since i was at a slow point this weekend waiting for materials and stuff, i worked with my brother on the newly acquired e21. tease although the wheels that will be going on it soon will be even cooler. it has also been lowered another inch or so since this pic. its now tucking tire all around
pretty cool. its a '79 320i, in very good shape, 5 speed swap from the stock 4 speed, 90k original miles on the motor, long tube header, exhaust, and a few small things. fun little project
so far, we lowered the car 5", pushed in and modified the bumpers, shaved the rear plate holder and relocated the plate, and this weekends task was mono wiper modifications. easier said then done though, we wound up welding the extension for the adjustment in wiper sweep like 8x, and its still not sweeping across the windshield like planned.
oh and for the z, i removed the welded in battery tray and started on the shaving of that area. pics to come soon of that fun stuff. Lots more welding and smoothing of that small area in the coming week or 2Last edited by 1badg35; 12-12-2011, 12:35 PM.sigpic
