LOL you really do have a problem.. But it's that itch of perfection that makes this car so amazing.. Why you aren't winning car of the year? beats me haha

Got a bit antsy between dinner courses last night, so I went out to the garage for a few minutes of scheming. And as a result, the wiring project is going to be happening this winter as well..
since I started the coolant sensor relocation, and need to extend a few wires, why not go all out and get the rest of the harness inside that driver side frame rail... things should get interesting

thanks everyone.
decided that one of the "big projects" is going to start now since I dont have enough projects going on. haha I have a serious problem
The tt motor that i have on the stand disassembled is going to finally be the part mock up motor that i have been planning for it to be.
This new "big project" i speak of will make a little more sense soon, but for now, i have a lot of prep work to get things on track to start the major fabrication: Ill explain more once I get most of this stuff done and out of the way
-lower intake manifold needs to be honed by hand to fit the new fab work which will sit atop it- already in process
-valve covers (intake side) need to both be modified and smoothed- might possibly design and produce billet valve covers
-new coil pack design to mount them far lower on the motor. so as to no longer be mounted to the upper intake manifold.
-new design of an aluminum mount for such coil packs
-figure out how to route wires to even tuck them further out of view.
and then the fab work can commence/ This project will likely be a slow process, during spare time, taking most of the year or so to actually complete. But im in no rush, and not touching my own car, so who cares. it can take as long as it needs..
Its good to have a second motor for mocking up ideas on. So far it has far outweighed lugging it here and disassembling it. And its about to get a whole lot more work done on it.
people often laugh when they see that the motor that i mock up parts on is a TT block, and im building the original NA motor. The motor on the stand is sort of the parts whore, for things like using the freer flowing heads as cores for the head work when i did my motor build, and checking tolerances on parts i fab for it. so much easier then disassembling whats sitting in a perfect bay.Last edited by 1badg35; 12-24-2012, 01:29 PM.

Can't wait to see it finished up. I think those pipes would look cool if they were white instead of being coated black. But hell you are a master at perfection and I will agree with you

I admire your attention to detail.
Everything you do is just perfect.

Loving what your doing with those last two lines.
Had to vote for your car as well, as cool as that Lada is, I wish I had this level of perfection on my own car. Truly inspiring.

alright well some more detail work commenced this weekend. Got up bright and early this morning, and started on taking care of this:
dont mind the old picture. these are the last two wires that run to the motor. other then the coil packs and injectors that is..
always right in the center of view... That needs to change
and this step would be to make these disappear.
So i called a buddy, and asked him if he wanted my coolant hardpipes since they were just powdercoated and i didnt want to chop them up and waste a clean piece. Gave them to him as a christmas present. I got a pair of ones in original shape (horrible condition) and started on the madness.
random picture of what stock ones look like with the sensor bungs (sensors and wires removed obviously)
ugh... dirty
threw them in my blasting cabinet. gave them a once over to remove the pitting and junk. Then took the angle grinder and chopped the two bungs off of the upper pipe. A little tig welding and grinding, and we were here:
left the shop, and went back to the house. now for the fun part. smoothing
removed all of the casting marks, cleaned up the area welded shut, smoothed some of the spots in the aluminum with the flapper wheels, and brought it down to a 320 grit with the palm sander to finish
then back to the blasting cabinet. some baking soda, and a little effort, and this is where they are at:
dont mind the pitting at the ends. need to hit them with the same treatment and then decide whether i want to weld on some -20 AN fittings and go the black braided nylon over braided stainless route or not. Not quite sure yet which i want to do next.
test fit just to get a look for what this will look like without those ugly wires and sensors right in view
so much better... now for that decision, and then these can get prepped and back for some wrinkle black powdercoat
now to tackle the next step... sensors being relocated to the end tank of the new triple core radiator.. that will have to wait till next weekend after christmas i think.
more to comeLast edited by 1badg35; 12-22-2012, 07:45 PM.

ah. lets move on then. Thanks for the heads up
trying to get my hands today on the pair of coolant hard pipes so I can start on the next bit of work with the relocation of the coolant temp sensors. Should tidy things up a bit more and get rid of that last visible pair of sensors

im not sure if that last comment was fully intended to be negative or not.
no matter.. I find the possibilities of the new set to be quite interesting. Will pull together a few little details that I have become aware of and want to improve on, and a little change is always fun anyway. Ive become a major wheel nut obsessed with details, and certain details with the form are pushing me to make a few very minor changes to things like the wheel design.
This winter was not major on the grander scheme of things, but its been focusing on the details mostly. I am hoping to have certain details perfected, that will take the build to the next level, (whether or not it is noticeable to the normal person). I have always built the car for myself, and will continue to do so for years to come. Details to me make a build, its what I definitely obsess over, and it actually is what typically adds to the immense time that goes into a true build
soon enough the procharger will have its time for fabrication, the ITB project might actually make its way to the car, but not likely this winter. Im super into the small details at this moment.Last edited by 1badg35; 12-16-2012, 02:14 AM.
