I normally don't see many good looking 300zx but you sir, You have an amazing one. Keep up the good work. Your car is very tastefully modded and i can see your dedication to detail.

haha. lets leave it at that for now.. nothing has solidified as of yet on the Z with regard to wheels or supporting details.. I definitely dont want to jump the gun on this idea. Only will be moving forward if i can pull off the impossible and achieve exactly what i want to achieve for it. This means a whole lot of r&d for "one off" parts. a whole lot. It will only happen if i can really push it to the "next level" and that will certainly take time to coordinate. Likely not at all this spring.
for now, the bay simplification continues, wiring changes are now the focus, the cage needs some paint, one other part needs some red paint, Focus on a few very very intricate details, and then i really need to put some attention into the other projects for a while to get them up to par.
The e21 is still in pieces, and i have a ton of wheel projects underway as I would like to keep pushing the boundaries with one off wheel builds in a "boutique" way, the new wheel line is almost ready for production, and then I need to help with the corrado build which needs to be finished up, and then the vw thing needs to be road worthy for the upcoming season. yeah lots of stuff is an understatement.
The Z has always been a slow build, and it will keep at that pace for years to come. I really am in no particular rush, and one intricate detail after another is how it will stay. I do have to say though that i was in discussion yesterday with a good buddy (best fabricator I know) about some crazy stealth FI work for the fairlady, but that wont be for a while, if ever. For now the goal of 300whp NA is really what i have been after. I would much rather have a 300whp car that handles like a go kart and can be pushed semi hard all day long, then a 600hp car that cant be driven to its potential on any street i know of.Last edited by 1badg35; 01-01-2013, 09:54 PM.

So apparently, the -20 fittings were all ordered on the last bulk order. So I will be building another coolant hard pipe with exactly the same work but with a -20an hose end integrated. Same for the end tank of the radiator. Guess I do have to get some of that xrp -20 an braided nylon lineLast edited by 1badg35; 01-01-2013, 11:05 AM.

small update to end 2012. got a few minutes to head over to the shop, and my buddy Ed helped with the end tank. I was a little worried about my welding skills on it since its not all that thick, so he knocked it out for me in a few seconds. milled some 3/4" diameter round stock on the lathe, tapped it for the sensors right on the lathe, and then welded them to the end tank. Onto the next project which i have already started.. More wiring stuff
dont mind the dirty water staining around the weld. A little coolant dripped on the warm aluminum after the welding was complete. Just need to wipe it off.
2012 has been a great year, lots of ups and downs, but overall a huge success of a year! Lots of features, the design firm has gotten a ton of exposure, lots of personal accomplishment in the architecture/ design field, etc. Looking forward to what 2013 has to bring. Lots of craziness already in the works over here. Ive been working like a crazy person all winter so far so that there can be some crazy projects coming out of this garage for next year.. Happy New Year everyone!Last edited by 1badg35; 12-31-2012, 06:28 PM.

If you need need a supplier I can put you in touch with a guy I purchase my XRP stuff from. http://www.xrp.com/catalog.html
damn, if only I knew a few days ago. The parts are already in for powder, but I may build a second one of the upper coolant pipe with the same work done to accept AN so i could swap if need be. Thanks for the info though. Didnt think any did the braided nylon in -20
have a centerlock E88 face in my room right now, and I am really liking the look of this wheel... These things are no joke. I love the way they carved out the pockets in the spokes the way that they did
trying to imagine this with a 5" or 6" lip on it, and face mounted not rear mount like this particular face...Last edited by 1badg35; 12-28-2012, 01:43 PM.

So i decided against the braided coolant line because they dont make -20an in black braided, just stainless. and clearly that wont work..
radiator is going under the knife this weekend. I will update progress on saturday with that.
And then comes the wiring task. I dislike wiring which is why:
a. i dont want to see it
b. i dont usually take pictures of me doing it.
i just find it boring, although i go through the same ocd moments with it. this time around, I plan on redoing the whole harness that goes toward the front driverside headlight, in attempt to get the entire thing inside the frame rail. Not entirely sure how its going to go until i start working on it. soon though.
I love the determination and patience you have for this z32 (well the little that you have). I think this is/wil be the greatest modified z32 of all time... "Mark my words," Nissan will have a part in this car's appreciation.

But I completely understand how hard it can be to stay on top of pm's. I was kiddin' around, but I'm sure you're not losing sleep over my comment anyway lol

Originally posted by 1badg35 View Postalright well some more detail work commenced this weekend. Got up bright and early this morning, and started on taking care of this:
dont mind the old picture. these are the last two wires that run to the motor. other then the coil packs and injectors that is..
always right in the center of view... That needs to change
and this step would be to make these disappear.
So i called a buddy, and asked him if he wanted my coolant hardpipes since they were just powdercoated and i didnt want to chop them up and waste a clean piece. Gave them to him as a christmas present. I got a pair of ones in original shape (horrible condition) and started on the madness.
random picture of what stock ones look like with the sensor bungs (sensors and wires removed obviously)
ugh... dirty
threw them in my blasting cabinet. gave them a once over to remove the pitting and junk. Then took the angle grinder and chopped the two bungs off of the upper pipe. A little tig welding and grinding, and we were here:
left the shop, and went back to the house. now for the fun part. smoothing
removed all of the casting marks, cleaned up the area welded shut, smoothed some of the spots in the aluminum with the flapper wheels, and brought it down to a 320 grit with the palm sander to finish
then back to the blasting cabinet. some baking soda, and a little effort, and this is where they are at:
dont mind the pitting at the ends. need to hit them with the same treatment and then decide whether i want to weld on some -20 AN fittings and go the black braided nylon over braided stainless route or not. Not quite sure yet which i want to do next.
test fit just to get a look for what this will look like without those ugly wires and sensors right in view
so much better... now for that decision, and then these can get prepped and back for some wrinkle black powdercoat
now to tackle the next step... sensors being relocated to the end tank of the new triple core radiator.. that will have to wait till next weekend after christmas i think.
more to come
Follow the ways of 1badg35, execution is paramount.

If you had a full pm box on a weekly basis, you too would have to pick and choose who to respond to. Fortunately I have a full time job as a senior architect, which would be like having two full time jobs. Oh and I also run a design company in the after hours.
So yeah please forgive me if it takes me a few days to respond to some people's pms. Haha
Some people need to do a solid minute of research to have found their answers, and those are typically the only ones i straw away from answering, again due to the fact that I am only one person
And with that said, I typically try to be as helpful as physically possible with regard to questions. Most of the guys on here probably agree. I've sent very long pm responses many many times before to help someone who was looking for it.Last edited by 1badg35; 12-26-2012, 04:47 PM.
