  • BAAAAAAAMMMM!

I've never driven with a fresh clutch before, so it's a new experience for me. the clutch releases pretty much right off the floor now and it grabs hard. I'm not used to that, but I'll get it I'm sure.

Anyways, it still has a bit of a vibration, not even half as bad as before though. if I get it up to like 60, it's not bad, but then if I put it in neutral, the vibes get kind of bad. not as bad as before though, that tail shaft bushing seems to have done quite a bit to help the car. Still considering calling it quits with this car since the vibration is still an issue, but I'd be much less afraid to drive it a ways how it is than ever. I spose if I got a benz 190 or something different in my price range (which is quite low), I'd be going through and fixing everything all over again on a different car, wouldn't I? just part of having an old beater car I guess.

    • My trouble shooting skills tell me that a lot of my car's discomfort comes from the really stiff bushings it has, which I'm cool with. My other thought is that the machine shop may not have balanced my driveline just right... cause my angles on the U joints are almost nothing... but then another thought is that some slight variance int he counter sinks in the drive line adapter are causing some of the vibration... but then again, that is such a small amount of weight difference, I don't know if I'd notice it much. Anyways, the car is almost de-sketched as far as I'm concerned, and now I have an opportunity to buy a euro E23 that appears to be in decent condition (haven't seen it in person yet). The catch with this is that I'd have to sell the E21 to make room for it. if I'm going to have a 4th vehicle, I want it to be able to at least tow something, lol.

So anyways, that's where I'm at, debating getting rid of it because I wouldn't mind a really cool full size car with 4 doors... It's also a manual, so I wouldn't have to do a trans swap.

Also, I think I'm going to sell the white wheels, they are a bit out of true though, which is why I don't want them anymore. I might put them in the classifieds soon. PM me an offer if you're interested.

      • Haven't had proper pics of it in a while:

It seems to be doing better the more the clutch breaks in. Since I haven't had one single inquiry about my craigslist ad (there is a link to it here on the classifieds), looks like I'm going to keep it for a while. I probably didn't make the best ad.. could have made it a little more polite, lol... but, I was kind of torn as to weather or not I was wanting to keep this car anyways.

I have plans to do some interior work and a new paint job and stuff.

By the way, the white wheels are officially for sails!

ready for something different, you dig? I think when I need new tires again (hopefully not too soon), I might try some 16's. The Fit Garage has some 16" porsche wheels I've considered adapting to, but that might be too rich for my blood.

thanks man! I almost feel like your phrase "DIY or Die" could easily be a bumper sticker or T shirt thing, so I wanted to compliment you on that. This car is also quite a "use what you got" kind of build. I work on my projects like I have no money. I only buy things when I feel I really need them. As someone who's just finishing business school out of pocket, that's how it has to be, lol!

so, is your engine a non-turbo rotor engine?

thanks man! as for the roads, I don't have much that's vulnerable under the car. I drive it on dirt roads sometimes even. some of the roads around here are pretty bad, but then again, I have no experience with your roads, so I guess I'll leave it at that. Just trying to give you some constructive encouragement to run low.

Hall, I don't think it's possible for me to sell it. I had it for sale and got one serious offer, but it was geographically impractical. maybe if I put a price on it instead of a "make offer" kind of deal I would have had more success... anyways, when I'm ready to put my new engine in something, I'll either have to sell the BMW or store it or something most likely.. or at least find somewhere to park it while I'm not using it... I need an airplane hanger like rich people use to store cars, only I'd store my beaters.

Danny E32, thanks. my engine is a NA rotary like you suspect. it's a 12A out of a first generation RX7.

I got some motivation to upgrade my wheel situation today. these aren't mine and I can't afford to ever make them mine, but it was fine to try them on:

and I do plan on painting the scion wheels I'm running white for now. I'm sick of the orange wheels.
