    • I can't wait to see it all one color. The trunk lid looks to have turned out nice.

        • Just read the whole thing and I've got to say you're a trooper to deal with all that rust haha. I still don't know how I feel about the wheels, not necessarily the styling but the size, the fitment is awesome but your overall ride height is still pretty high. As far as the rear towers, what are you planning on doing? just an extended tower like Mike Burrows did with rusty? Obviously not as dramatic of an extension but..

            • excuse me for being different but I think if you just clear coat it the way it looks nice it'll be epic... it's just something I like hahaha but the amount of work here is awesome!

He would need like 6 coats of clear at least to have a nice and even surface

                  • Not much progress.

I'm trying to work out the best way to run the rear without the 15mm spacer. Plan is to knotch the trailing arm, build a new lower mount further in by about .5" and move the whole top mount in about 1.5". I may do something similar to rusty's tower, but I'm still debating doing it all out of tube and connecting it into the roll bar to make the rear more rigid.

Anyways some pictures to give you an idea of what the rear will look like once I remove the spacer.

I was really aiming to tuck wheel in the back and I'm set on making it happen.

J/W if you realize that 6 coats of clear really isnt that much. No matter what though it would take a bunch of sanding after the clear to get it even close to smooth.

Thats for the update Heist, Ive been waiting lol

                      • yeah I really would just rather do the paint proper.

np ! now I just have to wait for a few days off to buy a bunch of metal and refill my tank on the welder and go to work. I really hope I can build some camber in the rear so it tucks up nice and clean.

Haha! I two good friends who do automotive painting for a living and ive talked to both quite a lot about their craft. They say they normally apply two coats of clear to an average customer's car, my buddy did 3 three when he resprayed his Corrado and that thing is shiny as fuck! Id honestly say 6 coats is a shit ton of clear!
You're right about getting it smooth though!

                            • The clear depends on the mix. Painting has far too many variables to classify coats. I could apply 20 coats of clean and have it very thin. Just depends on the product and mix.

Anyways after some brain picking about what to do with the rest of the infected rust areas I purchased a quart of POR 15 and a quart of metal ready. This should be a sufficient amount to finish off the rocker panels, headliner, pillars and the window seals. I have already really attacked it with the brush wheel, but this should make it last forever.

                              • F**king jesus..

this is soo good. would love to get one of these cars as a project, shame trying to find one in Aus that is reasonably priced or isn't a track car is near on impossible.

i would love to see it just clear coated also. something about all the sanding marks. but then again, gloss black with the mentioned copper accents would look unreal.

hats off to you, TOP JOB
