Hey guys, 1 piece -> 3 piece conversions seem to be all the rage these days.

I have a few sets of wheels that I wouldn't mind looking into converting and having some fun with, but I'm not too sure how feasible that would be in terms of cost.

Anyone know a rough ballpark price someone with a CNC to mill would charge to design and cut a set of 1 piece wheels into a set of centres?

Did a bit of preliminary research but I couldn't find a straight answer given my limited knowledge in the field , really only after a ballpark figure to see whether it's feasible or way over my budget.

What is your budget? Depending on size lips and barrels will set you back around $1600... a machine shop would charge atleast $1200 to machine out 4 centers, but being Australia where everything is new and never been done before, that figure is purely an estimation. Unless you know an engineering shop with the right equipment.

I've got 2 wheel repair/modification places I use and neither could really get a grasp on what I was asking about when I had a chat to them, either that or they didn't really care to think too hard about it. I suppose some photo's of the process and an actual sit down type chat rather than a passing question when picking wheels up would be better. Neither sounded terribly keen on the idea and they've both been in the game a long time, but that may be the downside though, too old school, need someone younger and new in the scene/industry willing to give it a go. However I do wonder just how safe/strong they would be once you start cutting old wheels up....but I guess there's enough sets done now O/S for it to obviously be ok. As Oxer said, probably close to $3k and that's without any refinishing, hardware or the initial wheel costs, so it becomes an expensive set of wheels that might be hard to on sell....not that that is a main concern.
