so that sounds pretty inevitable then...

what's your take on the Iran warships that recently passed through the Suez Canal? Apparently this hasn't happened since 1979..

Its a bit concerning if Israel reacts harshly, it is supposed to just be a training exercise in syria which again is just a show of power to the syrian people who i think Al-Assad is hoping won't react like egypt. But I get the feeling there is a deeper undertone that hasn't surfaced yet as to why iran brought the frigate up (the other vessel is just a supply ship). This is one of those moments were their can be a lot of conjecture but sitting back and watching what happens is the only thing you can do. I don't think Iran and Syria are dumb enough to attack israel unprovoked....unless by starting a war they think it will curb any revolution they are afraid of.

I'm not concerned with Iran firing on Israel, as much as Israel feeling the need to retaliate based around "provocation" of Iran doing something they haven't done for the better part of 40 years. I don't think Israel is gonna take anything lying down much longer, especially with the cold shoulder they continually receive from the US Administration.

Ehh even with the so called "cold shoulder" they are getting right now they are still getting more aide than any other country. Right now if Israel openly instigates something they will have to deal with a political back lash that will hurt it irreparably. Most people are uneducated about the current status quo that is going on between US and Israel and the blatant disregard for international law and decrees that Israel has ignored in the region due to national security. Which can be easily argued that if Israel followed what the UN had laid out there wouldn't be AS much tension (but there would still be tension with a doubt) in the region.

Edit: Just an FYI...I **** disucssing israel, it always ends up being an argument about religion, then about persecution and someone getting called an anti-semite then me having to point out that most of the muslims, christian and original jewish inhabitants in that region are more Semites than the immigrants that came from europe.

Wait until other dictatorship/royalty countries start protesting more. That entire region is only going to get worse. Gas prices are only going to rise for reasons either real or made up.

There are what like 4 major protests going on right now? Most of them sit on serious oil as well. Economies are getting shut down. I don't think they need to even think to make up a reason the oil prices are rising. Oil prices are just going rise faster now.

Gas prices rise with just a rumor of negative action. It happens in a lot of situations with the stock market. Qaddifi merely suggested that he would burn his oil supply and prices skyrocketed. Libya accounts for 2 Percent of the worlds oil supply. Just the fact that there are protests going on right now in Libya is driving up the cost of oil.

Well Libya isn't the only place protests are going on, and the Suez Canal is controlled by Egypt. There are a ton of factors that many are overlooking, (not saying you are, just in general).

                      [Overly cynical]

Gas prices go up every spring in preparation for summer traveling every year without fail, regardless of the "reason".

Well i dont know if Egypt is better off now or not. I deployed to Egypt for almost a year and a half and i couldnt stand the place. We had a joke that the national flower of Egypt was a trash bag.

Time will only tell if Egypt will get better. If a good democracy is formed there is hope, but if the military remains in power, and a new dictator forms, or if a new so called "fair" person comes to power who becomes a dictator (seems to be a reoccurring theme in the region) well then they will be no better, or even worse off.

my fear is they will go the route of Iran and turn into an islamic dictatorship who is not our friend and then we've lost another ally in the region.
