I quit for my GF, now wife too. Find something you care for more than smoking and use it to keep you from smoking.

Also, I have been smoke free for 4 years and it is said that you never get over the urge completely. If someone around me is smoking a marlboro smooth or menthol, it takes serious mental focus not to ask for one. Cigs in general disgust me though.

ahah well i do realy want to quit. i hav e been smoking for 4 years. its just hard cause even if my friends that smoke don't offer me one or something, i will still smell it and crave one bad, i **** being adicted to anything. especially smoking. i will try just the normal gum, and i guess i will be a loser for a week or two and not hang out with my friends that smoke. that should help. today will be the first day i have not purchased a pack. so we will see how it goes. i also am buying little mini straws so i can puff on them and ash(that was a really good idea) so we will see how it goes

If you do punch yourself in the balls everytime you smoke, then you will be more inclined to quit.

Maybe you can tell your friends and co-workers to sack you if they see you smoking. That way you can't self-regulate, and you'll have the wonderful incentive of a fear of public places.

When I wanted to quit I went like 6 months smoking just one a day. Then I stopped buying them all together as a rule. Then I tried avoiding some of my friends that smoke all the time(lol helps a lot). Then I went to smoking only when I was messed up as a rule(because that's really the hardest). Then I stopped all together. It was gradual but super easy. I don't smoke cigs at all now and I'm much, much happier and more content on a daily basis. Being broke and smoking cigs is just annoying. The first time that you think "eh nah I guess I'm not really craving a cig but I also wouldn't mind one", QUIT! Take that opportunity to quit because if you have one then, you'll only want one more later. That's how it was for me. The more times I decided not to have one, the less I wanted one at all.

Oh and I never smoke in my BMWs so that really helped a lot too. I don't think I could've quit if it wasn't for that because smoking a cig while driving is just relaxing and awesome.

Have you looked into ecigs? You can slowly lower the nicotine level to 0 that way.

i tried to START smoking cigs to replace my habit of smoking Ganja

i smoked cigs daily for 3 weeks straight and just quit because it did not appeal to me gave me headaches and made me angry... i smoke bud once or twice on the weekend with some Bluemoon...

                      fuk cigs.

smoking weed 1-2 times a week > smoking cigs daily (IMO)
i don't use a computer for music, Strictly HARDware, Cassettes, Vinyl, Samplers and Drum-Machines.

Man all this talk is making me crave a cigarette now.

For me smoking has a lot to do with location believe it or not. I do not smoke at work nor at home (home cancels out if i am working on my car there) but if i am lying around watching tv, i wont get the urge to go have a cigarette. same thing with work. I havent had a single cigarette in the three years ive been working where i do now, i dont get urges, and people even smoke around me and it wont bother me. but if i am with friends or really around cars in general (which is all the time when im not at work, school, or home) i smoke quite a bit. but i manage to regulate myself by staying home.

Its 3:26 pm and I havent had a cigarette today, and i consider myself an addict.

I also started working out again and believe it or not its made me want to stay away from smoking just because it makes the gym that much more difficult. I promised myself i wouldnt smoke until after i finished at the gym that day.

Ive been keeping to it, my next goal is to eliminate smoking when i am at school (which will be damn near impossible but ill try)

dont know what advice you can take from there. but thats my thing.

well i leave for basic in a month, and i am running two miles a day. and i know if i quit smoking i know it will make running ALOT easier. that is why i am quiting, so i am going to the gym later today to take my mind off of it. cause i smoked easily a pack a day for the pst 4 years. so even since i have been awake(about 4 hours) i am already going insane, but i don't wanna go buy a pack. so i am leaving all my money at home. haha

I keep a pack in my drawer at work and everytime I open it I smell them. It reminds me that I don't want to smell like that anymore.
