I have said it before and I will say it again. While I don't feel as strongly on the replica issue as Mike, or some others, you are a fucking MORON if you purchase replica wheels, especially new. I still think in this scene a lot of the people who dislike replicas are pushing their own agenda by trying to bring more credit to their real wheels, that is my opinion whether you like it or believe it is true. That said, it does hurt the companies who produce the real product, and it is theft plain and simple. The thing that makes me want to bash my head against my desk is when people buy replica wheels new, for MORE than what it would cost them to pick up a real set used, and put some elbow grease into it. You now have a heavier, softer wheel that is more prone to bend. I bought a vehicle that came with a set of BBS RS replica's (ARE's for those who care), and it is just a cheaper product, I would not want to own them again. Like it or not your car looks cheaper with replica wheels. Claim driving around town no one knows, and it is only to impress guys on the internet all you want, but deep down you know you made the wrong choice.
If you buy a set of used real wheels, and take the time to refinish them well, you are left with an investment that on top of looking better, is worth more than you have into them. Buy new replica wheels and you instantly are in the negative, and you have a lesser product that will never sell for anywhere near as much as you bought them for. This alone is what makes me confused as to why on earth anyone would purchase a new replica wheel under the pretense they cannot afford a real wheel. If you are buying used replica wheels for dirt cheap, I guess that is the one "exception" but why not just save a little bit longer?
I had 6 sets of wheels on my TSX in one year. All of which were sold for more than what I had in them. All it took was some sanding and polishing. People always said "must be nice to have enough cash to buy wheels all the time, baller." What they didn't know was that it all started with a beat set of Equips that I got for $800, refinished, rocked for a while, and sold for $1000. Used that to buy the next set, which I ended up refinishing and trading for a set worth way more and subsiquently sold for $1400, So on and so forth. I think I broke dead even on one set, but still, if they had been reps, the second they leave the box they are worth half what you paid.... simple as that.
So we've established that unoriginal companies are bad.
What about unoriginal people? I can't be the only person who gets annoyed by people essentially asking you to build their car for them. Customizing anything, to me, is a way of expressing yourself- cars are just an art medium. So I really can't fathom how someone can have 0 imagination. I get that some people need guidance, but I can't relate at all to people who don't know what they want.
Sure, the kind of person who'd buy a "Rolex" off a street vendor would never have bought a real Rolex anyways. But if anybody can get a watch that looks like a Rolex, what's the point of Rolex?
thats bullshit. When i talk about a fake watch im not talking about a $20 fake rolex from some guys overcoat. They have some good fakes that are a decent chunk of change, not in the thousands, but in the hundreds. I know plenty of people who have the ability to buy a real rolex but don't.
Regardless that goes beyond the point I'm making, the simple point is i don't want something that's fake. If i cant afford it then i'll buy used, or i'll buy something that isnt a rip off and is within my price range.
So to clarify im not saying "fuck cheap wheels" im saying "fuck knock offs". If you interpret anything else from my point, you didnt read it right. I'm also not saying that this is something the majority does or doesn't do. This is how i feel, and this is how i scrutinize others.

Dude... what are you on? You and I are making the same point. And who cares if there are expensive knockoff watches.... there are expensive knockoff wheels too...that's beside the point. Clearly you didn't read my post right, because you are agreeing with me, and I with you.
lol @ you two arguing back and forth while agreeing.
they only part of his post that i was disagreeing with is the fact that people who buy fake rolex's were never in the market, the rest of my post was just clarifying my previous statement. I read and understood his post.

People who can't think for themselves, and need someone to hold their hand through the whole process who can't choose anything for themselves. Those people aren't enthusiasts, they are doing it because its "the cool thing to do", I can't stand people like that. If you can't even have a slightly original thought get out, you shouldn't be modifying cars to begin with.
I get that people need help, especially just getting into the game, everyone needs to learn. But even people who are just getting into it have ideas, and can think of what they want their car to look like. People who can't think of anything for their car, who don't have any "vision" for their car, and are just doing it for style points, shouldn't be in this. Period. They are not, and will never be, enthusiasts.
Every car is a work of art in its own right, make it yours.

^I don't think he was saying that someone would only buy a fake rolex because they couldn't afford a real one, rather that if [you] are buying a fake rolex, you aren't the type of person that would ever dole out the cash for a real one.
