30's and 40's....those days were about salt flats not parking lot pimping like occurred in the 80s.

Back in the mid 90s i remember using the word stance to describe the way a car sat...aka "that car has a nice stance". Just like alot of words as time and pop culture progress it becomes a different meaning entirely.

    I blame rap music.

People see stance as a "fad" because of the way it is portrayed via the media. If you aren't involved all you see is a bunch of shallow blog features, lame stickers, and a lack of any real depth. You see that wheel fitment is an accessory to a cheap image, just like a rare set of sneakers, an AK47 print shirt, and a pair of white Raybans.

They don't see the community or the culture behind it. If someone hates, invite them out to the next meet, or invite them over the next time you try and fit an aggressive set of wheels so they can see the work it involves. Once they see what is really behind it... they'll get it.

i'm on a forum called idahomotorsports.com or known as IMS. people on that site always **** on peoples cars that are stanced out. the main argument and **** is that the cars are only to look at and are not functional. well i have several friends who have stanced out cars and they daily drive them, autox them drift them and drag them. i can't really butt in becasue, well currently i have no car. but once i do its going to be stanced out like crazy. i guess alot of people don't understand it. like for example. there are tons of civics and other cars around here that all they care about it going fast. me personally i would rather have a super stanced car and drive slow. (watching the road 100% of the time, lol) i guess people **** on it just like people willl **** on anything.

Was it really necessary to bump a 3 month old thread to say this?

It's all about peoples attitudes. I feel like their are a lot more laid back and "chill" people that are involved in the stance community, as opposed to performance oriented communities.

But honestly, what the hell do I know. I've only been involved in this community and have no idea.

Btw, What would this world of diverse car enthusiasm be if everyone was "pro-stance" and agreed/liked what we did with our cars? I for one would dislike it if everyone that was into cars was into stance.

I have been into "Stancing" cars since '88. Back then, we took 13or14 x 7or8 wheels and stretched 185or195-60's on 'em and tossed them on Celicas, Corollas, Civics/CRX's, Maximas etc... while chopping springs (except the Hondas, they had torsion bars). I've learned since then, to let people have their opinion. For me, it went in 1 ear and out the other.

maybe. or it might just reinforce all previous apprehensions. I agree with you're point on stickers/shoes/sicknewfadoners, trendsters will always be out there, and we can enjoy the resale value of their 4th oil pan car (stanced cars have a lot of damage attributed to them that go far beyond the normal DD user.)

I like people that stick to the car they have. (and don't sell it to get the sick new fad oner car)

i like people that test their own waters.

i like people that don't have to do everything to the extreme just to feel like DEY DID IT!

                      have fun bro.

p.s. e36's are the new civics
