nah you should be fine. we used waterbased primers for a long time at my old work with similar guns, no issues. i believe most manufacturers were prepared in advance for the switch as its been happening in cali for a long time. everything on the gun thats metal is most likely stainless or aluminum

this is not true. you need to make sure the paint gun is stainless. our shop recently switched to waterborn basecoat. almost all the painters in our shop had SATAjet 2000s and 3000s. the 2000 is not stainless and the gun will break down after 2 weeks of spraying water through it and it will be trash. the 3000 guns are however stainless, but only the fluid tips, (wherever the paint will flow through) if the water does sit or get into the other compartments of the gun it will corrode them.

if you are looking to buy a gun, it should say on the box or specs that it is stainless or waterborn compatible. most cheap guns tho, like the home depot or an auto parts store are most likely not.

                      hope this clears things up

This thread is sweet. I'm a paint nerd, lol. I'm a sales rep for Rust Oleum and love to paint stuff for friends and my cars.

My first spray job with a gun was my custom hood. Single stage gloss white on the outside, Rust Oleum satin black up the middle.

Then I spent about a week working on my wheels after work.

Then I took my friends car from this...

                              During...

                              To this...

My last project was my wifes wagon. 1 part (no hardener) base coat clear coat system. Took a shit load of wet sanding and buffing, but I think it looks way better than what it was.

                              Before...

During, I decided to make it simple and just rattle can the jambs.

                              After...

Everyone's work in here is excellent, a lot of different skill levels.

HVLP, first time ever painting using a gun, and first time doing a car.
