  • 2005 STI Wagon build

Hello everyone, this is going to be my build thread about my 2005 Impreza wagon...

This is my first car, I purchased it about 2 years ago. I absolutely love the way the wagons look and how sleeper they can be. The car is slow as shit, 165hp stock gets boring pretty quick (boring even before I drove the car) however I bought the car knowing I would turn it into a full out "racecar" one day... Here are photos of my car and what ive done to it so far and what's to come.

when I first bought the car, rally armor mudflaps, hella horns and gold rims were mandatory!

    gold wheels mudflaps.jpg

then I purchased coilovers from my cousins 2004 STI. I ran into the problem that the collars of the coilover were so long that they were hitting my axle boot. for now they'll do...

    coilover near axle.jpg

One thing that pretty much ALL 10 year old subarus (in my area) have is rust in the rear quarter panels... I knew I was going to run an aggressive fitment in the future and the thought of rolling my fenders with bondo'd quarter panels made me feel uneasy..

Whats the simplest way to remove rust? cut it off of course!

I brought my car to a guy in my area that makes fiberglass body parts. He made and installed 50mm wide fender flares for me. I also installed an sti front clip. He's got his own website, his company is called Wideworks.

Now I know I have replicas (ESR SR01), they are 18x10.5 +22 with nankang tires...
They are sold now and I have my new wheels (three piece) waiting to be installed... more on that farther down.

I ended up getting the parts painted. Girlfriend for scale

Now winter is here and the car has been in storage since November... Once the snow melts and the salt was been cleaned up from the roads Ill be taking her out of storage.

I contacted Cimon at SCALE suspension, he set me up with exactly what I need.
I got the innovative series with the extreme low option 14kg/12kg springs, front and rear camber plates. I haven't gotten them yet but I will make a small review on them on this thread once I receive them. One thing I can say is the customer service is awesome. Very nice guy and very responsive.

Now for the new wheels. I am building the wheels myself. New lips and barrels ordered from VRWheels.

I painted the rear barrels black. Lips are full polished. The faces are the original chrome from Work, they do have blemishes but rechroming is crazy expensive and Im happy with the way they look... specs are 18x11-38. Anyone have suggestions on tire brand thatll stretch nice and have good handling? looking to get 255/35 or 245/35.

The plan with this car was a STI Swap. I'm going to be using the version 8 EJ207 engine, transmission, driveshaft, differential, axles, hubs, wiring harness and also brembos. I most probably need to run a spacer in the front for the brembos to clear.

I'm going to be doing the entire swap with a friend In his garage.
the parts have been ordered and I'm waiting on them from Japan!

Mods list will pile up once the swap begins. Will probably aim for 350whp for now. I'm going to be getting the Cobb accessport V3 with a protune.

about a 1 1/2 year difference between each picture.

Picked up 2 tires for a good price, both at 9/32s. nankang ns20s 245/35/18. I paid 140$ CAD for them, waiting to get another 2.

Im going to need to run 8mm to clear the brembos.. yay for more poke

i stretched them on myself with the help of another mechanic. No cheatah needed, reverse lips are easy to stretch.

2004 Nissan Maxima SE 6 speed ( Closest car to being "stanced" )
2003 Nissan Maxima SE 6 Speed

friend of mine is getting his garage torn down and completely rebuilt from the ground up (literally). Hopefully it will be done by the time my motor gets here.

Motor/trans should arrive in 4-6 weeks. Will be repainting the block and powdercoating a bunch of parts. Once all thats done the swap will start!

I spent about 4 hours today hammering my front fender wells and cutting my bumper/sideskirt to clear the new wheels. Had to make brackets to push out the front bumper outwards on each side so it wouldnt hit the wheel when turning.

New rear overfenders ordered, theyre about 0.7 inches wider than what i have now. Not much wider but will help with running less negative camber.

thanks man. I plan on doing everything myself and with a friend. The feeling of creating something yourself is way more satisfying than giving a shop 15k and have them do all the work..

I'm no way a welder/painter so certain things I wont be able to do. Looking to get the engine bay repainted and shaved (maybe) which I will do myself minus the painting part.
