Cheers Laef! Fingers crossed you can pop down for a show in England some time in the not too distant future
Also, I have official finished school today as I had my last ever exam.
Pretty weird experience, I'm sure most of you can relate
This means I now have freedom over summer to make some money for my car and work on my website
happy days
Tomorrow I'm making the most of my first day off and spraying my wheels gun metal grey
Should also get around to tinting the fogs and FINALLY sorting my callipers out (and front pads)
At first I didn't want to touch the wheels as I thought it'd be a waste of money,
but after calculating some funds I wont be able to afford wheels once I drop it a little anyway, (soonish I promise!) plus natural instinct for an 18 year old is to spray his wheels am i right or am i right?
also I can get a dicount on the price of cans so why not!
Made a quick render of what it looks like now and what it should look like by the end of the weekend
Opinons are very welcome! The colour might be a little lighter than how I rendered it but you get the idea
If you dont like it tell me too as I like hearing opinions
Not sure if I should go matte or slightly metalic, likely hood is i'll chuck a thin layer of clearcoat over the top to give it a slight gloss
Cheers guys!

What it sits like now

What it will be like by the end of the week hopefully

really liking this build; it's good to see that you're not rushing things to slam it on it's nuts right away.
all those details ad up to a better car.
although i think black wheels look better; i recommend you not to spray the wheels and just keep that money in your pocket until it's time for new wheels..if you're planning to run different wheels in the future; don't mind the ones that are on it now. I'd say it's about time to focus on lowering the car
your're right about the insticts tho XD when i was 18/19; i did the exact same shit. kinda wish i didn't do it so i had a bit more money later down the road.

Just my 2 cents, but I think it would look good in a goldish color. Like the STI wheels. Whatever you do to this thing will make it better!

Right afternoon guys, time for an update!
Yeah mate, fully done with school and waiting untill July to hear about this apprenticeship I've applied for.Originally posted by Yungabbs View PostYou finished your A2's?
In for black on the wheels, stealthy
Thank you man, I balanced out the arguement for both options in my head and ended up painting the wheels.Originally posted by DutchieSaxo View Postreally liking this build; it's good to see that you're not rushing things to slam it on it's nuts right away.

I will lower the car, but insurance in the UK demands I have the lows declared, and my current policy doesn't allow me to declare lowering the car.
Therefore I need to wait untill November, where hopefully I can afford declaring the lows.
The good thing about waiting is that I'll hopefully have a proper job by then (meaning proper money) as I've left school now, and I have Christmas and my birthday in the space of a 2 months following November too.
Also, one of the perks of my dad's job is that he gets a healty dicount at some stores, and recently he was able to get some coupons for Halfords so the paints were really cheap for me! Happy days.
Woah man, that's amazing to see! Massive thanks for the support! Fingers crossed I'll end up bumping into you at a show in the near future.Originally posted by whyisthernousernames? View Post
Your mini is wicked too, massive soft spot of them.
Cheers man, I'm actually a massive fan of bronze wheels on black cars. With this said, the ones I have just dont suit the colour at all and because I'm not going low I'd rather play it safe and go with a shade of grey.Originally posted by CDeez5 View PostJust my 2 cents, but I think it would look good in a goldish color. Wait untill the end of the year, I love this car and I wont let the devil tempt me into modding my car in such a way that I can get into serious trouble with my insurance over it.
The insurance is a bitch as it is anyway, so better leave it alone haha.
---------------------------------------------
Right so onto what I've been doing with the plucky little thing.
So I made a trip to Halfords to get the old paints for the wheels and what not. Came together to like £30, including the caliper paint and a little paint brush too.
I know I know, spray for calipers I hear you shout! I don't want to blow my own trumpet however I'd like to think I'm fairly skilled with the 'ol paintbrush
Take a look for yourself
This is how the fogs looked like before, and this is what they look like now in gloss black.

Yes, I know theres no reason to paint the actual hub itself, but I needed to paint the edge of it as you could see it through the wheel and I didn't want to see the old rusty colour.
I thought I needed to replace my brake pads too, but after inspection they are actually fine.
Maybe I just need to press the pedal harder then
Next was painting the wheels, but there's a bit of a story to that so I'll tell you later.
Anyway after all of that was done, the tint for my fogs arrived in the post.
I ended up getting the girlfriend to help me with this part as she was moaning about how boring it all is.
What better way to change her mind than letting her mess about with the screwdriver haha

This one was a little fogged up, I tried my best but couldn't fix it. Ah well. The lights dont work anyway as the left light is missing a part and I don't even have the switch for them.
Anyway, applying the tint was very simple. I didn't bother making it perfect around the edges as the fog mesh covers up and pins down the edges anyway.

And there they are, looks pretty good to me.
So the story with the wheels.
So it was all going good, I did it one wheel at a time, sanded it down and sprayed them with the colour.
I ended up going for Ford's Sea Grey. On the first coat they looked dark blue so I was a bit confused, but after a few coats and after they dried it came out great.
I left the center caps because like I've said in my past posts, I'm not going to pretend this car is something it's not with fake badging.
Plus I've actually grown a little fond of the wheels, and think they look quite good now. The yellow and green center caps work well in my opinion too.
When doing my third wheel, I cross threaded a bolt hole in my hub. Queue the panic!!
This meant I had to drive the car home on three bolts (only round the corner) and get a tap to re thread my hub and the bolt.
Luckily for me my best pal Sonny was able to get a tap down and re thread the hub for me. So all of that is fixed and working well again.
Another life lesson learned, fair to say this is a reoccurring theme. But but but but wait, theres more!
My bolts that have been on my wheels since I got my car are bolts for steel wheels. They are not built for alloy wheels.
So now I have to buy 16 new bolts, it's alright I'll sort it out soon. Like tomorrow soon
At least they'll be shiny haha.
Also, new tires are needed, like now. So I'll take care of that soon too.
Anyway, here's the pictures you guys have wanted to see.
Thank you to anyone who's bothere to read all of that, and appologies to those who are mad I've not lowered the car yet
Cheers!

Right so time for a small update.
My car is continuing to fall apart on me, and recently I've been hearing a knocking sound coming from the back of my car.
Literally had no idea what it could be, untill yeterday I had my mate in the back of the car to film the sound.
Here's what it sounded like.
So as you can tell from the title of the video, my exhaust is falling off.
The muffler part to be exact.
So I have no space to work on my car, but I parked it up half on a curb and slid in underneath it to have a look. The bottom is actually in good nick so I was happy to see that.
With that said, the part of my muffler nearest to the engine is simply rotting off.

It's really easy to twist the muffler side to side, which can't be a good thing. I presume that's because it's not really held on to the rest of the exhaust
I think it twisted itself up naturally, and my exhaust tip was hitting the bumper, making that sound.
I literally have no idea what to do, so I twisted it away from the bumper and cable tied the muffler to the car at the front and back of the muffler, to prevent it from causing too much damage when it eventually does fall off.

I mean this probably wont work for god knows how many reasons, but I took it for a spin and the knocking was gone, so I presume the muffler or the exhaust tip was hitting the rear bumper. The rubber bits holding the exhaust on are really really worn out too, so they dont hold the exhaust in place at all.
My service light came on too, so once I get paid I'm going to be self servicing the car.
Also I'm thinking of taking all the stickers and tints off the car, because I'm sort of bored with the ambers now.
I need to get a new muffler and weld it on properlly, but any help and advice is very welcome as I have literally no mechanical know-how
Cheers!
EDIT - just went to fill up and the noise is back, it still drives the same so i presume it's still something to do with the exhaust falling off.
pray for me
