Still waiting on suspension and brakes. Got a call they should be done by the end of next week but sadly probably wont make it here before Cars & Coffee on the 6th.
I did do a few things last week. First the OEM battery was shot. Wouldnt hold a charge. Since it has JIS terminals i wanted to keep it that way. After some research i found that Odyssey offers JIS terminal for its batteries so i adapted a PC680 to the stock tray and hooked it all up.
Next i replaced all the 40 year old dry rotted rubber hood rests, hardware, and vacuum hoses in the engine bay.
I also took the time to add the early Celica script badges. I like them better than the later block style.
Pulled it out of the garage and got a few better exterior pics
Man this car, everything about it is driving me bananas! From the fender mirrors to the steering wheel just everything. Even the battery cover looks hot!
Did some maintenance on the newly rebuilt motor this week. Things they did not change to new. Preventative maintenance for the future pretty much. New water pump, oil pump, timing gears, timing chain, tensioner, full gasket set from top to bottom.
Was hoping the cam was off a tooth on the timing chain but was not. Would explain me having to run about 25° of negative timing. Finally found out the cam was replaced during the rebuild and was not degreed. Adjustable cam gears are a pain with these motors since it a pushrod with the cam in the shortblock so i have decided to just keep the timing retarded.
Also upgraded to a Pertronix electronic ignition and flamethrower coil. Runs fantastic now!
Old vs new timing gears and chain
New oil pump
Also removed all of the factory smog equipment. Crazy how much useless stuff is on a motor.
Still no suspension yet but finally got tracking should be here and installed by next Saturday.

Im the first person to use the new Urethane ends from Techno Toy Tuning so some of the hardware was sized wrong. Hope to have all the missing bits in a day or so to finish up the rear pieces and get the car back on the ground for an alignment.
