So guess I'll start one of these so I can have somewhere to post, besides instagram, my updates on Helga, my 2004 B6 A4 avant.

    Little info on the car.
I bought it from Boston and had it shipped down to sunny south Florida. BIG mistake. I had no idea how badly this things underneath was salt damaged. Rusty bolts and control arms and rear subframe, the lot.

So I got to work and starting replacing the pieces of the car, bit by bit. The car is on full airlift performance bags and when I got Helga onto jack stands to do the suspension build, I literally started tearing everything off and replacing it with brand new OEM or better parts. Bolts, nuts, lines, etc that needed to be done.

This build page is kinda coming up through months of already loads of work on the car. I usually just post on Instagram under

    #thatpalesguyswagonbuild

Where you can see all the progress of Helga from day 1.

So I will start this from where I stand now with the car. And that's with these:

They used to be fully polished:

Huge shoutout to Stefan at SDWheels for doing an amazing job on the wheels.

Got bored last night and did a quick test fit:

The specs are 18x10 et22 all around, BUT due to my S5 brakes, the hardware didn't clear, so I put in an 8mm spacer, dropping it to et14 and to balance it out I'm going to run a 5mm in the rear. This will mean I need some fender pulling fun done. í*½í¸Ž

The cars going to be going into paint once I get all my new bumpers in. Already have new fenders in to replace the rust damaged ones and currently looking for a new hood to fix the un fixable bend in mine.

We also did this two nights ago:

It is to be replaced with this, rust free, B7 rear subframe with 60k miles (í*½í¸Šscore) and to have all new bushings and rear control arms fitted and fresh, brand new hardware.

The front has already had all new 034 control arms tie rods replaced, the front spindles have been replaced, and air bags installed. (I will get pics of the trunk setup for the air)

Worked on the rear strut mounts. Cleaned and sanded and painted to get the salt off and for future rust prevention. Bringing her up to my florida car standards ^_^

That's it for now and I'll post more updates when goodies come in and Helga gets closer to getting off those jack stands she's been on for a year.

Oh I also used to own this:

So like my past built cars, I always have big plans and hopefully Helga will be just as great as my Miata was and my past mk5 golf.

So finally got a few days off to knock out some more work on the terrible rust bucket subframe.
Got tired of day dreaming of SOWO so went to work to get everything off the old frame and get it ready for cleanup and get it on to the B7 rear subframe.

The bolts are so rusted, we had to saw them off to get the control arms off.

This is what the old bushings and bolts which where fused together.

            Finally got it all off.

Also got around to getting my 034Motorsport solid tie rods in to match the 034 control arms 😎

Next I have to get my new S4 roof rails in and the exhaust when it shows up. Since neuspeed no longer makes the exhaust I wanted, guess I'll be going the AWE route to match up to the RAI test pipe. Should keep the neighbors happy.

So worked on getting the rear control arms ready for paint and to clean off any salt or surface rust and the years of caked on dirt and grime.

Used a wire wheel and in a few hours had these old under arms looking new again. Polished the bolts up to. They were covered in rust.

The difference is night and day

All finished up. Next is to prime and paint get them in.

Finally was able to remove the old subframe bushings, using the old blow torch and air hammer approach. (My arm still has small burn marks from the hot oil pockets popping)

The B7 rear bushings only had 60k miles on them, but I had all brand new, rear subframe bushings laying around, so why let them go to waist. This way it's all taken care of in one go.

Long way to go, but day by day, the smaller things get checked off.

Here is a comparison shot of the old and new-ish subframe next to each other. You can see just how bad the salt was from years in Massachusetts.

I also had the braided steel lines made up for the rear B7 brake upgrade to complete the brake setup on Helga.

Here's some of the paint we did on the axel shields and the diff to frame mount.

Just wanted to do something different so we splatter painted these 3 pieces for shits and giggles and I actually really like how they turned out. Just change things up a bit over the usual silver paint job everyone does.

Didn't do much else today. Too much sailor jerry's last night >_>

Been slow with work killing me, but finally got the subframe cleaned, painted and the bushings in. Got all the new bushings for the lower control arms and that's the last piece to get the whole thing in the rear put back. Here's some pics of the cleaned and painted diff which I think looks so fresh.

Polished the subframe bolts up a bit too, to match the diff and clean everything up.

The rear subframe with a nice, new semi-flat black protective layer.

Built some custom brake loops to trick the system into thinking the pad wear sensors are always good, so the computer doesn't show an error message in the MFD.
The S5 brakes only have a wear sensor on one side, the B6 A4 has them on both sides. So these needed to be done to complete the brake setup.

The final sensors. ECS sells some but they are for a MK4 only and way too long. These are much better and perfect for the B6.
