Build it however you like, it'll still be better off drivable and taken care of than sitting to rot

But intentional patina is stupid, at least on painted panels. Plated surfaces...eh. I won't be spending the money so I have no say lol. All I know is coming from the air-cooled vw scene, patina gets old real quick unless it's real.

I agree with one of the previous posts, that rendering gives you a "hot rod" styled car without forcing it into the rat rod category. I think it'll look great!

Love it, especially the fact in one way or another you are still saving the beast from the graveyard.

I think Rat Royce still has the best ring to it, but being that it's more hot rod styled I definitely need to find the proper name for it.

Anyways, I had some legal issues with the deadbeat seller that was holding up me picking up the car, but all of thats fixed now so I'll either be taking the trip up to NY this weekend or Tuesday of next week. I'm getting extremely anxious to get this thing in my shop and just stare at it for hours.

Here's some photos of the car while it was being disassembled. The biggest issues are that one large section of the frame is completely rotted through and the other is that the body (which is framed by wood) has fallen apart so it was disassembled as well. Believe it or not though, after disassembling, it sits now as a rolling chassis still.

The good news is that I found a local place that restores these pre war RR's and will most likely be rebuilding the wood framing of the body from scratch (w/ a 6" shorter roof line that is). Now the way these work is that the aluminum panels are then attached to the wood frame to complete the body itself. So I'll probably just recreate the aluminum panels as well and attach those to the new wood framing. That way I don't have to chop up anything original. I'll most likely just sell the original panels since they'd go for a fortune like everything else I'm not keeping. As for the frame, the shop across the street from me does wild framework including custom frames and restoring old Model A's and stuff.

With those two aspects taken care of it leaves me to do the drivetrain, suspension, interior and finishing. Shouldn't bee too bad considering I have at least $30,000 worth of parts to sell off of it lol. Anyone have any ideas for a good motor to swap into it? I was thinking of swapping a Ferrari powerhouse into it, but the more I think of it the more I realize that this chassis can't handle that much power. It'd be a big expense that I wouldn't get to enjoy to its full potential so much. Don't say LS swap it either...

                        Holy fuck I'm excited!

What about like a bmw v12 from the older 7 series or 8 series.

They only have like 300 horsepower but with some long tube headers and proper finish on the engine I think it could work.

Switch to carburetors as well maybe with some polishing i think it could turn out well.

Goodluck, thank you for taking on this project!

How bout an M70 with Fluid Motor Union ITB's poking through the hood? The v12 would kinda jive with the "prestige" of the old RR and the ITB would scream hot rod. The FMU units just look super cool.

Actually I really like that idea, would be much for affordable than the Ferrari motor. 300HP is close to the upper limit I think this thing could handle anyway.

ITB's are a must with my vision. ITB's poking through the hood, and open headers firing out the side. I'm very comfortable with anything from the BMW platform as well
